Your external hdd might have a problem. Check if your external hdd is properly detected by the system.

You're not clear what backup program you're using but if it's ntbackup then beware. I've seen far too many cases where backups look OK but won't restore. By comparison even a plastic frying-pan has its uses, and at least you can see if it's melting..Cobian Backup or Lazy Mirror are better options.

i completed my backup using ntbackup to my seagate external hard drive. I then removed my hard drives from the two old computers to have them in an emergency if i need to recover some old data. I then heaved out my old dell inspiron 2350 computers. Thanks for your help, anyway!!

Just bear in mind, you need to TEST those ntbackups by doing a restore to an alternative location. Do not assume that because you have a nice shiny .bkf file of xGB size, you have a backup.I prefer backup systems which use plain files,or zip/7z/rar formats. That way you can see what is inside the backup with an archive manager. -And most importantly can see if that is, 'nothing' .. =:-0

Which version of cobian backup are you using? Have you had any glitches with this program. I will probably set up this program today or tommorrow to see how it works. After i do a download of this program and do a backup by cobian to my external hard drive, how do i go about deleting the original backup from my external hard drive.. thanks for your help!
