Backup freezes using USB 2.0 Expansion in Windows 7 x 64
I am using Windows 7 x 64 Home Premium upgraded from Vista. I had previously transfered some files from Windows Xp to Vista. Windows does recognize Expansion Drive (H) Seagate USB 2.0 320 Gb but freeze at 14% when using "Let Windows choose option" and 30% when "I choose option". Have tried with AntiVirus off and on. Checked that my system has downloaded several Microsoft fixes suggested in other forums to include, Windows6.1-KB976972-x64, Windows6.1-KB976972-x86, Windows6.1-KB982110-x64, Windows6.1-KB2249857-x64.Windows6.1-KB2296199-x64, Windows6.1-KB2284742-x64. Found the following Log Error! after Backup failures Log Name: Application Source: Windows Backup Date: 2/7/2011 10:04:52 PM Event ID: 4104 Task Category: None Level: Error Keywords: Classic User: N/A Computer: Description: The backup was not successful. The error is: The system cannot find the file specified. (0x80070002). Anyone have more ideas to try to get Backup to work successfully?

Hi, According to the error code 0x80070002, please kindly refer to the following article: Error code 0x8100002F and or error code 0x80070002 when you back up files in Windows 7 Hope it helps. Thanks for Trying to Help Alex, I saw your post when you first answered. Thanks for the suggestion Alex. I reviewed the article. Actually, I had tried that thread before. My computer indidcated I already the downloads installed as suggested in Solution 3. Solution 1 and 2 were not applicable according to my son the A+ certified guy. (He had given me the Expansion drive as a present and was almost as upset as I was that it did not work.) Actually I have reviewed and tried a lot of solutions but none have worked. However, just tonight, my backup started working on the H drive. What is different? Really not sure what is because my son and I had tried so many things that did not seem to work. I know that I re-formated the drive at one point. I would refer you to the following link. http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc786898(WS.10).aspx I have a hunch that the timing of the re-format is germaine to the solution. Before re-formatting, I had already swicthed from the Seagate supplied USB cable attached to the front of computer to a longer USB cable attached to the back. We were using the longer cable because one thread suggested my front USB ports were the problem. So I switched to a 5 foot USB cable attached to the rear USB port. I have been working this problem with the longer cable attached for some time now. On a whim, my son re-attached the shorter supplied USB cable to the front of my computer tonight. (This is the same cable that he had been using with continued succes on his computer system when testing of the expansion drive. We are not sure if I had already done something, such as re-formatting the Seagate drive, before he first started his test on his system as that began some time ago.) However, in any case, the Seagate Backup drive worked as you would have though it should have all along after switching to the shorter Seagate supplied USB cable tonight. I believe it was a combination of something I had tried over the last few weeks and the change back to the shorter cable. For sure the only the only difference this last time is I switched back to the shorter USB cable. Good luck to all the frustrated Backup users who read this thread. My obvious suggestion is to use the shorter Seagate supplied USB cable when doing your trouble shooting. In all probablity, it is not the front ports causing the problem but a long cable could cause cause problems. Very frustrating, I know.
