Backup fails - Error 0x80070020
I never used Vista- I've jumped from XP Pro, straight to Windows 7 Ultimate (64 bit). I'm trying to make a backup to external USB hard rive, but it keeps failing.A similar question for Vista gave SP1 as the fix: http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/itprovistasp/thread/28a4c271-a22e-412b-8110-8fd7526ce227There's also this: http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/windowsbackup/thread/e71dfa7a-3939-43e2-8c71-3ac979c25e53One of the suggestions is AntiVirus locking up files. I disabled MS Security Essentials, but the problem persists.Any suggestions ?

Hi Alan, Before moving on, could you please let me knowwhether you do backup on Windows XP or not?If so, it is recommended to use WET (Windows Easy Transfer) to backup your data. For detail steps: Step-by-Step: Windows 7 Upgrade and MigrationHope it helps.

Hi Alan,Can you pass on the *.etl files from <SystemDrive>\Windows\Logs\WindowsBackup to sneham_at_microsoft_dot_com (Remove underscores and replace words with charcters)? Also, can you successfully copy files to the USB disk? Do you have any other realtime protection software turned on?Thanks,Sneha[MSFT]
