If the problem just occured recently, you can try System Restore using a restore point dated before the problem happened. If no restore point available, you can try to test in the Build-in administrator account, you just need run the cmd.exe as administrator, and execute the following command: net user administrator/active:yes Note: if you want to disable this account, please type the command net user administrator /active:no in step 4.If backup works fine in the build-in accout, you can transfer your personal settings to this account. I hope this can help you. John

Hello John.I've tried the backup with the Administrator account now, but the problem still occurs.Unfortunately I don't have a restore point dating back to before the problem started.

Now, it's better to determine if there are corrupted system files in the system. You can try SFC and check disk for error. You can refer to http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows7/Check-a-drive-for-errors In addition, you can try to disable the UAC to test, you can refer to the following steps.1.Go to Start Menu -> Control Panel -> User Accounts -> User Account.2.Click on User Account Control settings-Choose Never Notify.Good luck!John

Hello John, I've run SFC not too long ago, but am running it now again.I've already disabled UAC.I'm also scheduling a disk check for next reboot. Will post back when done.

I've started getting this same error as well and have been unable to resolve. Like you, my user is a local admin and I have a previously configured backup routine that I'm trying to modify. My current backup destination is to a share on my LAN. Please post if you figure something out and I will do the same. Best regards, Naveed

Naveed if you search this specific error on Google/Bing you should find another user who has encountered this problem and solved it by modifying "something" with gpedit.msc. Unfortunately the gentleman's native language isn't English, and neither is his version of Windows, so his solution wasn't much of a clue as to what should be changed.

Have done the SFC /scannow and chkdsk. The problem remains.

I found that post -- it was referring to the "Take ownership of other files and objects" key in the local group policy under User Rights Assignment, but I checked mine and the local Administrators group (of which I'm a member) had already been granted that right, so still no go :(

Same here with the local Admin group and "Take ownership of other files and objects"

I'm attempting to backup to an external eSata hard drive in case that is significant. Still no progress in being able to backup or reconfigure the existing settings.

This is interesting. I've purchased an external 2.5 inch hard drive enclosure and 500Gig notebook drive, assigned it the same drive letter as the eSata drive I was trying to use and the backup is now running.

I am receiving this same error, and I am also an administrator. Does anyone have any answers to this OTHER than buying a new hard drive (or does anyone know WHY that even works)? Thank you

Reviving a very old thread, but hopefully to save someone else the trouble, my resolution is documented at http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/w7itprosecurity/thread/1273013f-3900-4285-bd5c-fac52177b6d7 --Seek Truth, and you will find Joy!
