Backup and Restore Is sucessful but checking image files size shows zero file size
HiI got my system in order after a problem. I reinstalled win7 and now attempting to backup the system. To help with a successful backup Ishut down all services...no interent, turned off virus protection...and enabled hidden system files. After the image backup is done windows tellsme the backup was sucessful but I see very smalll files sizes 0 bytes. Note: When I check the third HDs attributes it shows Read Only...is this a problem. Also, is there anyway to test this image if it was successful. I have two PC with windows 7 installed. Can I copy this image to a external HDand try it on the home PC.Just tried backup again. I noted the size of my bacup drive. 384.18 GB Free. I run the backup...windows does not mention if the backup was good orbad. I then re check the HD size after backup it is again 384 free. How long does a backup take..I have 23 GB on the C...it only takes 5 minutes to runthe backup

Hi I have a solution for the current problem. I purchased and ran Norton Ghost 15 for the first time. It worked.

From the manage space option, you can find the size occupied by system image backup. On the target, you can find WindowsImageBackup folder and would have *.vhd file - which is the system image backup.Thanks,S.Soudamini.This posting is provided "AS IS" without warranties and confers no rights.

If you run an image backup and set saving location for the backup, backup will create a folder named WindowsImageBackup and save the images there. Please check if this folder exists. Then you may access the folder and check the size of the images. Note that you need to open the folder with high privilege. If there is no such folder exists, please let us know how do you run a image backup. Did you launch Control Panel\All Control Panel Items\Backup and Restore and click "Create a system image"? How long does the backup cost? If you have found the *.vhd file, you can load it as a virtual drive to check if it is fine. Native VHD Support in Windows 7 You may just load the *.vhd from Disk Management and open the drive to check its health. Do not need to follow more steps to create boot entry.Arthur Xie - MSFT

Arthur Xie - MSFT No I am also getting the exact same problem. After backing up (nearly 30mins) to my external (which 7 gives me another beef) the folder claims to be 0 in size so obviously its not backed anything just sat doing Jack for 30mins.But since upgrading to 7 ive noticed it no longer classes EXTERNAL devices the same anymore, eg point of externals would be to store music, photos, films, IMPORTANT FILES SUCH AS YOUR SYSTEM BACKUP.But no, 7 keeps saying I THE ADMINISTRATOR (and only account on the PC) hasnt got rights to access, yet when i goto sharing options its greyed out and wont let me share it unless i share over a network which i do not have I am a simple PC that uses a external for storage.Ive done images before (7 beta) and worked perfect, some reason upgrading to 7 has cost me more problems backing up and accessing my drive.================================Also new problem which ive just realised, when makign a backup of my C drive to my external F it claims 149GB required when theyres ony 88GB used on the C drive
