Do you have an internal or external drive disconnected? Anyways, reconnect all drives and run backup again. Thisshould fix the problem.

Hello Robert,The issue seems to be while trying to eumerate the known folders(e.g. Contacts, Downloads etc) for a particular user. The error is not related to the target device. Can you send the following info:1. run->regedit.exe->Go to [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\WindowsBackup]-> right click and say "export" and send across the exported file.2. run->regedit.exe->Go to [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Shell Folders] -> right click and say "export" and send across the exported file.3. Collectetl files from C:\Windows\Logs\WindowsBackup and zip them and send them across. For the time being, the work around could beto exclude the "Additional locations" from the configuration UI.-- "Change settings"->"Select target"-> "let me choose"-> expand each user's nodes-> exclude "additional locations"->"save settings"."Backup now"Let me know if this worksor if you face any issues. This will exclude the additional locations from backup. To include these folders in backup, likeDownload, Contacts etc. you can add them expliclity by expanding the"Computer" Node in configuration UI and select "C:\Users\<user name>"You can send the above filesto "lokkum"at"microsoft"dot"com".Waiting for your response. For future queries related to backup and restore please post your queries on http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/windowsbackup/threadsThanks,Lokesh

Hi,We have seen it happen in the case where the registry entry containing the user paths has unexpected values. As a permanent workaround, please do the following: For every user on your machine,1. Login asthe user 2. Run -> regedit.exe3. Navigate to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Sofware\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Shell Folders4. Observe the value of Appdata and LocalAppdata. If it has an empty value or a value of the type %Appdata%, this is the culprit. Can you verify that this is the case with your machine? If so, the workaround is the following: a. Open a command prompt b. Type set Appdata / LocalAppdata depending on which registry entry has the wrong value. If Appdata is wrong, type setAppdata and if Local Appdata is wrong, type set LocalAppdata. c. Copy the value after the = sign. Exampleifthe output is: APPDATA=C:\Users\John\Appdata\Roaming, copy the value C:\Users\John\Appdata\Roaming d. Paste the value in the wrong registry value. Either replace the %<<<>>>% value or fill the empty value.Run backup again. It should succeed. Thanks,Sneha[MSFT]

I would suggest you to exclude the Additional locations from the UI. Follow the given steps: 1. Go to change settings, select the target 2. Expand the user nodes and after that exclude the additional locations 3. Save it and now take the backup. It will surely succeed.
