Backup Error 0x8100002f
Running build 7100 Windows 7. Been fiddling with this one for some time now. While most forums mention this error with missing files, my notepad message is: Backup skipped backing up D:\ as it is on the backup target. I have searched everywhere for something similar to no avail. The only way I can get a no error backup is by running an Image then select C: backup. Never can run with Windows deciding process. Dell Dimention E310, P4, 2GB, C: system 1TB, second drive D: 500GB, 2 DVD RW. Can change Backup D: to any other letter and message is always the same. Checkdisk was run on C:, Windows 7rc repair was run with the CD created when I loaded some time back. Nothing exotic on my system, printer and flatbed scanner. I really think MS has hit a home run with Windows 7 and since running beta and RC have been really impressed. My non codewriter mind keeps going back to something regarding the 100mb reserve partition or the 200mb partition on Beta. Presently it has no drive designation on my machine, but if it did I still get the error.

Hi gammatech,As the skipped file log shows you, Windows backup skipped backing up some files for you since they were on the drive that you use to store your backups (the backup target, D: in your case). You seem to have included some files on D: in your backup (most probably through your libraries) and also selected D: as your backup target drive. Can you please open Backup and Restore center and confirm if this is the case? If yes, this is by design since it does not help much to backup contents of a drive onto itself. Your backup completed successfully otherwise. Thanks,Sneha[MSFT]

I have also added some directories from the target backup device, into my libraries, and get the same error/warning. I would like to know if there is anyway to stop this reporting as an error in the action centre? I cannot seem to be able to de-select the directories that are on the target backup device, without de-selecting the entire library (which is undesirable) With my current settings, I get these false positives in my action centre every week! Hi John,Unfortunately the backup configuration is not supported with your current config. You can only exclude the entire library and include the directories within the library using let me choose option to get rid of the errors.Thanks,S.Soudamini.This posting is provided "AS IS" without warranties and confers no rights.

By default, the process of backing up will backup files under libraries, as you have saved the files under library you need to remove the location of the folder. Try these steps and check if it helps: i.Open Windows explorer ii.In navigation tree, under libraries expand Music iii.Right click on the subfolder you have already (Joseph, rip etc.) deleted iv.Select “Remove from the location” v.Now try to backup and check http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/w7itprogeneral/thread/97217575-ba05-4cc8-8c7f-eec89eae9845
