Backing up to network folder
I can see and share files to and from Windows 7 to 3 other PC's running XP on my home network. All of these have one user, no password, so they boot straight to the desktop, no log in required. In Backup and Restore, you can choose to backup to a network folder. I can browse to the folder, but it will not let me continue without entering a user name and password to access the folder. There is no password, and none required for any other network access. Anyway around this? I know I can just backup to the hard drive and then copy the file over to the shared network folder, but I was trying to avoid that extra step if I could.

Same issue here, had to create a password-protected user account in order to back up to a network share. Learned the hard way that"I know I can just backup to the hard drive and then copy the file over to the shared network folder, but I was trying to avoid that extra step if I could."doesn't work: if you move the backup files you won't be able to restore from them anymore. very similar to same problem in Vista and doesn't seem to have been fixed. cyanna

Thanks. Some Google searching had shown me where the question had been asked a lot about Vista, so I figured it was the same deal. I haven't tried it yet because I also realized the computer I was trying to send it to is running XP Home, and that is not allowed either.
