BackUp
Win7's backup for me is almost perfect. But..........It defaults to having to perform a FULL backup way too easily. I've tried countless registry tweaks to no avail.Basically it would be great if after I restored my OS and/or moved my backup sets that I could get Win7 to recognize the existing backup sets and continue from there and NOT make a new full backup and start over.Is there anyway around this? If not could this be looked at as a future update? I mean having to lose your backup archive just cause you moved its location or performed an OS restore is kind of a pain............Thanks in advance for any answers........

Hi there, First of all, your understanding of Windows Backup is correct: The backup function was designed as first backup always full and subsequent backups are always incremental. From the first post, I think you would like to let Windows 7 recognize previous Backup data even if backup set/folder was renamed or moved to another , is it correct?1. Windows 7 backup use computer name as its folder name for backup. If you rename the folder, the Backup Function will create a new full backup set next time it runs. Please notice that you can still double click the original backup folder (renamed one) to launch Backup and Restore Wizard and restore your files.2. As you may know, incremental backup need a flag to check, I assume it’s “LastModifiedTime”, but Windows Backup tracks ChangeTime (which is not shown in the explorer) as one of the attributes to monitor files and picks up those files as changed and backups them up in the subsequent backup. There are many applications may change “ChangeTime” attribute without get our attention until run second backup, a system restore may also cause this attribute change and the next backup time-consuming as well.http://blogs.technet.com/filecab/archive/2007/03/06/why-incremental-backups-in-windows-vista-are-larger-than-expected.aspxFor me, Windows Backup feature is pretty good. If you would like to keep more than one set of backup data, it’s ok to rename the backup folder and let the system create another full backup, but I don’t think it’s necessary to keep multi-backup sets or rename the backup folder. What do you think about it?
