BSOD at Startup with DRIVER_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL error and NDIS.sys criver problem
Hi there I have a Sony Vaio Laptop with Win 7 x64 and on Friday it suddenly gave a BSOD at startup. it seems there was a Windows update as well as Norton 360 update since the last restart. I tried system restore but a Norton upgrade kept on installing (and then failing) in the background and now I windows tells me that my restore point is corrupted. I can only boot the system in Safe Mode (Safe Mode with Networking also crashes). I have un-installed Norton 360 and ran the Norton removal Tool. I have also installed the original network driver for the Sony but I still get the BSOD during startup. I have loaded the last 2 minidump files to Skydrive and they can be accessed at: https://skydrive.live.com/?cid=2c98c599a36d15cd&sc=documents&nl=1&uc=1&id=2C98C599A36D15CD%21115# Any help with this would be greatly appreciated. Hi Edu, You can either find the cause of your system crashes by analysing them, or do a "Safe Mode System Restore". I have posted instructions on how to do a safe mode restore in another thread (which I can't find right now). There are 2 ways of doing a safe mode restore. Please post back here which way you want to proceed.

I have found the instructions for XP to do a command line manual restore, and I've used this successfully on XP. I haven't tried it on Win7 or Vista. http://support.microsoft.com/kb/307545 But first try this: Restart your computer and press [F8] during the initial startup. When you see the Windows Advanced Options Menu, select the Safe Mode with a CommandPrompt option. Select the Windows 7 operating system. Logon to your computer with an administrator account or with an account that has administrator credentials. Type the following command at a command prompt: C:\windows\system32\restore\rstrui.exe

Your wireless LAN driver athrx.sys looks old, which may be the cause of BSOD. Please update the latest driver from either Windows Update or Sony Vaio's support website. Let us know if this issue still occurs.

Thanks JING I thought I had the latest LAN driver but on checking the Sony site again I found a newer version and installation of this fixed the problem. Regards EduEdu van Zyl
