Hi, My computer has had delay shutting down for three days now. I got a BSOD, then rebooted into safe mode and received this information: Problem signature: Problem Event Name: BlueScreen OS Version: 6.1.7601.2.1.0.256.48 Locale ID: 1033 Additional information about the problem: BCCode: 1000009f BCP1: 0000000000000004 BCP2: 0000000000000258 BCP3: FFFFFA800CDA3B60 BCP4: FFFFF800045923D0 OS Version: 6_1_7601 Service Pack: 1_0 Product: 256_1 Files that help describe the problem: C:\Windows\Minidump\012112-8985-01.dmp J:\TMP\WER-21106-0.sysdata.xml Read our privacy statement online: http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?linkid=104288&clcid=0x0409 If the online privacy statement is not available, please read our privacy statement offline: C:\Windows\system32\en-US\erofflps.txt I ran the Windows memory diagnostic tool, reported no problems. Tried to open the file at : C:\Windows\Minidump\012112-8985-01.dmp but it wouldn't open without the proper program. I did install another HDD (I have 3 plus a boot SSD) just before this occured (about a week ago) but all was fine for 3 days or so. I'd appreciate any help. For general blue screen troubleshooting, http://mikemstech.blogspot.com/2011/11/windows-crash-dump-analysis.html For this error, you encountered driver_power_state_failure. It is generally easy to identify the driver that caused the hang, just follow the example here, http://mikemstech.blogspot.com/2011/11/how-to-troubleshoot-0x9f.html If you would like help with analysis, please upload the dumps (typically c:\windows\minidump) to skydrive and post a link, http://mikemstech.blogspot.com/2010/08/skydrive-uploading-files-for-community.html -- Mike Burr Interesting Reading on Technology and Finance

Hi Mike, Some quick comments: In 3 restarts in the past 22 hours I've not experienced the shutdown problem or BSOD. Could this type of problem resolve itself? I typically connect my phone through USB to the computer for charging. Yesterday I noticed it wasn't charging until I rebooted. Could USB drivers be the cause of the problem? I'm a complete newbie at this, in fact I just built my first computer last month and am not technically gifted so I'm having to learn as I go about how to follow your instructions. I am eager to learn it though. I tried to upload the dump file at: "C:\Windows\Minidump\012112-8985-01.dmp" to my SkyDrive account however I got the error message "012112-8985-01.dmp You don't have permision to open this file. Conbtact the file owner or an administrator to obtain permission". I am the only account on the computer and it is as an administrator so I searched to the internet to find out that I had to go into properties>security settings. I don't know if I have to start top down by changing the security settings on "Local Disk (C):" or one folder down to "C:\Windows" or again down to "C:\Windows\Minidump" or finally at the actual "012112-8985-01.dmp". And I've discovered along the way that that are a variety of group or user names including, SYSTEM, Administrators (MOON\Administrators){MOON is the PC name}, Phunbunnies (MOON\Phunbunnies){Phunbunnies in the user account}, CREATOR OWNER, Users(MOON\Users), TrustedInstaller and Authenticated Users and of course the myriad options to open "Edit", "Advanced" and of course the check boxes. I tried changing a combination of settings however never getting past the aforementioned 'permissions' issue at SkyDrive. My next step is to install the debugging tools per your link: http://mikemstech.blogspot.com/2011/11/windows-crash-dump-analysis.html however I'm not sure I'll know what the results mean but I'll try anyways. Thanks.

It's possible, but relatively unlikely that the issue will resolve itself spontaneously. Has anything changed in terms of whats plugged in to your computer during the last few restarts? It is possible that if a device were disabled or removed, then this could reduce the rate that the BSOD occurs. Can you open the folder C:\Windows\Minidump\ and copy the file to your desktop/My Documents folder? This should give you permissions to access the one that you copy on your desktop/My Documents folder. Alternatively, you can disable UAC. -- Mike Burr Interesting Reading on Technology and Finance

Hi Mike, Thanks for responding. The issue has not resolved itself. I tried to copy the .dmp file from C:\Windows\Minidump but it would not copy. However I did find a program called "BlueScreenView" which allowed me to extract the information from the .dmp. It's called BSOD.zip at the URL below. Also, I ran PERFMON and attached it's results there as well. Currently running VERIFIER without result. https://skydrive.live.com/redir.aspx?cid=464ba8a5bfe31109&resid=464BA8A5BFE31109!294&parid=root Thanks

Hi all, Problem resolved thanks to J.C. McGriff over at techsupportforum.com. My APC uninterruptible power supply was missing from my list of devices at Computer>manage>device manager although software which was intended to monitor the battery was loading at start up. I searched for an updated software and installed. Since then I have had Driver Verifier running twice on my system (once for 46 hours and another time for 25 hours) without BSOD or incident. Sincerely, Nelson
