Automatic LAN connection failed
Hi all! I am using Windows 7 RC x86 and have following problem: each time computer starts it can not connect to LAN automatically. All I need to do is to disable my network connection and enable it again. After this operation I get IP address and other network parameters from DHCP. I tried to start my computer with disabled Windows Firewall. It works: computer connects to LAN automatically, but it is not solution. I do not want to turn Windows Firewall off.Any ideas how to set up system to retrieve IP address after system start with Windows Firewall turned on?

I am facing the same situation where I am using a VPN connection to the university network to get online . When i turon on my pc ,the network seems to find two networks connected to my network card and then I am not able to ping the VPN connection anymore. My work around is to remove my vpn connection and disable my network card and then renable it and then it just find one network to connect ant i am able to create the vpn connection again and connect to the university network. There is no such problem when i am on the wireless network in the university. Farnush

I'm having a very similar problem, Windows 7 x86. When Windows boots, I can see other networked PC's but no internet access. I have to disable my LAN connection and run the repair wizard and it starts working. I also noticed when its not working there is a 0.0.0.0 address as my default gateway listed before my DHCP assigned gateway. Disabling and repairing removed the 0.0.0.0 address and everything works.

I also noticed when its not working there is a 0.0.0.0 address as my default gateway listed before my DHCP assigned gateway. Disabling and repairing removed the 0.0.0.0 address and everything works. My problem is DHCP can't access my computer after Windows starts. Can anyone tell me, how do I need to set up Windows Firewall settings to allow DHCP Client work properly? As I said, disabling Windows Firewall solved my problem, but I do not want turn it off (because of wide intergration native Windows Firewall). So I need to set up it somehow, butI don't know how.Gabrieel, please tell me what do you disable and repair. Sorry, but I do not understand. In details please.

I also have the same problem as yo describe: I start my PC and no Lan-Conection is posible. Only after an unpluging of my the Wifi-Modem and a great load of patience can I get the conection. Without Firewall an Internet Security it would work but taht is not the right method.Would it help if the IP were a fixed and not a dynamic one?

I'm having the exact same problem. Seems like this issue, couple with a couple new issues are present in build 7100. Build 7000 worked flawlessly. What is Microsoft doing?Anyway, regarding this problem, what happens is that when I start up my computer, my lan connection icon in the task tray has a yellow caution indicator on it. When I open up the network properties, it shows that it's connected to TWO networks: A Private network AND a Public Network. Where the "Public Network" is coming from is beyond me, but I never experienced this issue before in Windows 7 beta build 7000. To resolve,I disable the network adaptor and re-enable. And then it only shows ONE network (the Public Network is gone). But it's highly annoying and irritating to do this EVERY single time. We need a patch for this new problem.

Update: It seems that manually entering static IP info (instead of using DHCP) resolves the problem. Before it ran fine using DHCP. I restarted my computer twice now with static settings in place and no "Multiple networks" anymore.Still, the issue needs to be resolved.

Using static IP is not a solution for me. Our network re-configuring periodically, so I will need changing manual settings each time. Using DHCP is much preferable.

Hi again! As I can see, this problem is not only mine. For this time I solved it by myself (for now I don't know how it works). In adapter settings I have disabled Virtual Networking (called something like that, don't remember exactly) and after reboot DHCP Client began to work like it should. Did anybody, who has this problem, had installed MS Virtual PC 2007? So, the problem might be not only in incorrect Windows Firewall settings but in network services too. Trying to disable some of them in adapter settings window might help.

Hi Guys,I think my problem is even stranger! I have a D-Link DSL modem, connected to one port of a Mikrotik Router. The Mikrotik is a DHCP server,to a network which has two Win XP, two Win7, one Vista machine, and a few other devices (printer, NAS, etc.) It's a mix of wired and wireless, with LAN and WLAN bridged in the router. The Win7x64 (7100) on my main gaming PC works fantastically (DHCP client, Internet access, etc.) The other Win7 x86 (7100), when connected to the switch like the rest of my network, gets all the correct DHCP info (IP, Gateway, DNS, etc), but status shows no Internet connection...Now, if I remove the cable to the switch, and replace that instead with a D-Link AP configured in Client Mode (connected to the Wlan card in the Mikrotik Router), Internet works. The problem here is that the Mikrotik router still sees the same network adapter requesting a DHCP lease (the Access Point in Client mode is transparent). If I look at the DHCP leases in the Mikrotik router, I see the MAC address of the LAN adaptor in the Win7 PC, not the addresses of the Access Point.I have no reliability issues with the network, either LAN, or using the AP as client, all shares remain, connection never drops. It's just than wired direct to the switch, I have no Internet, but connected to the AP in client mode, I have Internet. And again, just for emphasis: I do not have a wlan adapter in this machine, it's a LAN connection, using the Asus P5B-VM on-board LAN, either direct to a gigabit switch, or to the LAN port on an Access Point, configured in client mode. The only difference in the connectio as far as Win7 Pc is concerned, is speed. 1000Mbit/sec, vs 100Mbit/sec.I am at a total loss, I hope someone can shed some light on this problem, as I'm really tired of swapping cables just to get internet on my Media Center.

I've had this problem with the last beta (7700 I think), didn't know what it was then. Upgraded to the RC and the same thing. It will show the lines for my Default Gateway and the first line is 0.0.0.0 and I have to disable and re-enable until that goes away. Tried to set it up with a static IP, but this did not work.

Hello all, I'm facing exactly the same problem, and I found a small workaround. I created a file on the desktop named "networkGatewayReset.bat". In the file, I add this two lines, were the last IP address is my default gateway: route delete 0.0.0.0 route add 0.0.0.0 MASK 0.0.0.0 192.168.11.1 And every time my PC starts, I launches this file as administrator (contextual menu on the file on the desktop). It's a little bit faster than going to the nework connexions. I hope MS will soon find a solution to this problem.

Thanks! Listen, and what is 192.168.11.1 IP for? Is it must be my IP or something else?
June 10th, 2009 1:41pm

192.168.11.1 is the IP of booschon default gateway (e.g., your router IP address). For most people it's something like 192.168.0.1 or 192.168.1.1, but you'll have to figure out what it is in your own configuration. -Nick
