Autologon with Group Policy
I am currently working at a public library for future system administration. Right now we have Windows XP computers auto-logging onto a Samba domain ran by an AIX system. We are looking to upgrade our client computers in the future with Windows Vista Enterprise Edition. Also, we are going to change our primary domain controller to a Windows 2003 Enterprise R2 server. We would still like to be able to auto-log the computers onto the domain by using group policy instead of manually editing each client's registry (we have 150+ clients). For testing purposes, I have set up a network of a few computers with a 2003 primary domain controller and Vista clients. Now, I know there are two ways to add custom templates to use in GPMC: one is by creating ADMX / ADML files and put them in the GroupPolicy directory (or the central store), and the other is by loading a custom ADM template through the group policy editor. Here is the problem. I have created both ADMX / ADML files and ADM files with the autologon registry keys and I cannot get them to show up in the policy editor no matter what I do. I have tried creating other custom ADMX / ADML files and ADM files with different registry keys and they load just fine in Vista. For some reason the group policy editor is not recognizing the autologon registry keys. Has anyone else had this problem or know how to fix it? Thanks for your help.

Hi! The group policy editor does not display some "Triggers" by default. These triggers are like the ones that can be set, but not removed by removing the policy. To display these triggers, do the following: Addthe ADM file you wish to use. Go to the folder where you should see your triggers. Click the pulldown menu "View" and "Filtering". Then remove the checkbox "Only show the policy settings that can be fully managed". Click OK. Your triggers should now be seen as red icons. B.A. Oslo Norway.
