Auto run doesn't work
My autorun is not working. I was missing the NoDriveTypeAutoRun registry thing in HKEY_CURRENT_USER and HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE so I created it in both of them and changed the value to 91 (like someone was directed to in a question help page). Still doesn't work. The issue happened after I ran combofix a while back (I think). Can anyone suggest a solution. Any help would be appreciated on this issue.

You mean in the Task manager? How do I set it to automatic?

Right click My Computer and select Manage. Then on the left at the bottom, double click Services and Applications, then select Services. Scroll down on the right side until you find Shell Hardware Detection. See what it says for the Status and Startup Type Columns. If it does not say Started and Automatic respectively, double click that row and then select Automatic from the Startup type dropdown (if it does not say Automatic already) and press Start (if Start is not disabled). Then press OK and OK and such to close all windows and reboot.

What is the device: USB flash? CD or DVD? If I remember correctly, the recent outbreak of malware convinced MS to ban autorun functionality on XP and Win7. Instead, they made something named Autoplay. -- pa

DVD player specifically. Autoplay works but autorun doesn't. The autorun was working for a while but then it stopped.

Hi Lumzi As well as I know, Combofix can be caused this problem probably, you can try to use the following methods for a test. If It has no help, please contact to the manufacture of Combofix. Method 1. Delete the registry value in this registry line: [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\IniFileMapping\Autorun.inf] @="@SYS:DoesNotExist Method 2. Combofix may be have changed the content value of registry line:HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Advanced\Folder\Hidden\SHOWALL Please check change it to the default setting.

Method 1: Mine says @SYS:Software\Swearware\dump Method 2: How do I know which registry value to change. I see a lot of things like (Default), CheckedValue, DefaultValue etc. I am not too skilled/experienced in dealing with the registry. Also, I notice that in my D: drive it doesn't show the icon of whatever dvd I have in the tray. Only the generic icon. Edit: Method one of you post helped me a great deal. Though mine said something different, it was the correct place (don't know if place is the right word) you pointed. Also, you comment about combofix was also dead on. I deleted the registry containing @SYS:Software\Swearware\dump (from method 1) using notepad (a method I learnt from a techsupportforum thread solved by a Microsoft Support Team expert) and now my autorun is working. Thanks a bunch.
