Auto Time Update Wakes Computer from Sleep
Using Win7 x64 RTM:Hi. I manually set the automatic clock update feature to update every 24 hours. I've noticed that if my pc is in sleep mode when the time update is due to occur, it actually wakes the machine to perform the update.Vista didn't do this -- it would just do the update next time the machine was awakened.I'd like it not to wake just to perform this update -- any reg setting I can tweak to accomplish this? Thanks! /jimp.s. I determined it was the time update feature waking the machine via the Event Log.

There is a setting labelled "Wake the computer to run this task" in "Task Scheduler" that you can check or uncheck for the task. You will find it in the Power section under the Conditions tab for your task that you have scheduled. There is a built in task schedule called "Time Synchronization" that you could change to meet your needs if you like.

I'm familiar with the Task Scheduler part, but what do you mean "...built in task called "Time Synch".I reviewed the existing tasks, including hidden ones, and I don't see it.Thanks/jimp.s. I implemented nistime.exe via Task Scheduler to accomplish my goal, and disabled the built-in internet time update... there's an ongoing problem with it anyway, whereby it doesn't automatically start the time service even when the service is set to Automatic.

If you bring up Task Scheduler then in the left pane you should see "Task Scheduler (Local)" and under that "Task Scheduler Library".If you expand "Task Scheduler Library", then Microsoft, and Windows, you will find the Time Synchronization entry.

Hi,Please check in Group Policy Editor to see the following item is set correctly. Computer Configuration\Administrator Templates\System\Windows Update\Enabled Windows Update Power Management to automatically wake up the system to install scheduled updatesValue: DisabledBTW, you can set sleep settings to require a password when the computer wakes. This may help to prevent Windows Update automatically running from sleep. Best RegardsDale
