AutoCAD Raster 2011 error 1606 installing in Win7 Enterprise 64bit
We've been getting this error for a month or so now, and it's got us all stumped. We install AutoCAD 2011 64 bit, then try to install Raster 2011 64bit and get an error 1606. Reading the AutoDesk website help link - http://usa.autodesk.com/adsk/servlet/ps/dl/item?siteID=123112&id=9579121&linkID=9240617 We found that in the registry key HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Shell Folders everthing is pointing to a profile C:\Users\kb\ There is no KB profile when we image the system (corp image), and we're stumped as to where it's coming from. Once we change all the registry entries in that key to the correct user, Raster installs fine. Hopefully someone here can give an bit more insight to where this rogue profile is coming from. Odd thing is it shows in the registry but it doesn't show in the C:\Users folder.

It shows the actual username. I was told this weird kb profile comes from a windows update, but can't confirm that. I've never seen (until now maybe) an update creating a profile.

Hi, Could you please check whether this is a hidden user? We can use the method mentioned in this post to check that: http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en/w7itproui/thread/16378967-8a39-4aef-85e4-d859a71648d3 Regards, Please remember to click Mark as Answer on the post that helps you, and to click Unmark as Answer if a marked post does not actually answer your question. No hidden accounts. I checked the key as indicated HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\WindowsNT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon and there are no hidden users. The SpecialAccounts key and Userlist key are not present.

One a fresh image prior to Autocad installation is the KB present on those keys? Thanks SeanMCTS: Windows 7 MCITP: Windows 7 Enterprise Administration

I didn't check on the system in question. On my computer, without AutoCad or Raster installed, the KB entries in the registry are present without a profile for the KB account. The images are the same, I deployed the image on my computer 2 days after installing it on this computer in question. Both computers are Dell Precision M4600 laptops with identical hardware (RAM, Video card, etc.). So it would be a safe guess to say yes they were there before installing AutoCAD and Raster.

When creating the install image did you sysprep generlize? It looks like this is coming from the original setup of the image. If that is the case two things can be done. One you can deploy the image and fix the registry (not what I would recommend as there could be other issues if this was any indication) or two build a new base image and before preping it for deploy verify that the KB (or any other user account) is not displaying in your registry locations you are having the issues with. I know option two takes time and a lot depending on your configuration but it is the safest way to proceed with a clean setup to eliminate possible future problems. I'll have to talk with the tech that builds our images and see what he did and what we can do to clean that registry entry out. Thanks for the information.
