Authentication
OK... this was a surprise to me.. I have a computer that is domain authenticated. I am retiring it and from an admin account I changed the computer name and the domain to workgroup. It rebooted and now I can't log on. Is there any recovery?1 person got this answerI do too

Your computer behaved exactly as it was designed to. When you disjoined it from the domain you no longer have access to domain accounts. You will need to log into the local administrator account and create local users. If you are planning on personal use for this machine (for ex. you have left the company), then it would be better to do a clean install of Windows because there will be many tattooed domain settings that may make it difficult to use. If you don't know the local administrator password, get it from your IT Dept. Otherwise if you don't want to reinstall Windows (strongly recommended that you do), there are ways of blanking it but Microsoft doesn't permit us to tell you how in these forums. Their house, their rules. Use Google or ask a local computer tech (not a BigComputerStore/GeekSquad type of place). MS-MVP - Elephant Boy Computers - Don't Panic!

If I attach the computer back into the domain is there any chance?

You would need to rejoin the computer to the domain and you would need to be at the office to do it. You can't just change it back from home. Your IT Dept. can do this for you at the office.MS-MVP - Elephant Boy Computers - Don't Panic!
