My environment: Server:   Windows 2003 32bit workgroup: jefferson1 I am attempting to connect a Windows 8 Pro 64bit system to the shares on my server. I have joined the PC to the workgroup just as I have all my other machines.  When I try and create a desktop shortcut or map a drive like I have on my XP machines, it is asking me for username and password. This is expected, but when I put in the \\servername\username it will not authenticate. I have tried multiple users and none of them will work.  This is my FIRST Windows 8 machine....

The username should be type as: ComputerName\Username
