Audio service not running and can't open control panel

Hi,

My audio service is not working with a white/red cross over the speaker icon.  I have followed the following tips;

1. Click the Start Button, type "services.msc" (without quotation marks) in the Search Bar and press Enter to start Services.

2. In the right pane, please check whether the Windows Audio service is started.

3. If not, please double click the service. In the tab "General ", make sure the "Startup Type" is "Automatic". Then please click the button "Start" under "Service Status" to start this service.

If the service cannot be started, please also check the following services:

  • Remote Procedure Call (RPC)
  • Multimedia Class Scheduler
  • Windows Audio Endpoint Builder

But windows audio service does not begin when I click start.  I get the following error message;

"Windows could not restart windows audio service on the local computer"

"Error 0x800706cc:The endpoint is a duplicate"

I have started RPC, Multimedia class scheduler and windows endpoint builder,

How do I get the audio working again?

please help,

Bryan Murphy

if you have AVG, check at the quarantine file, if you find audio service there try to restore it, if pop up message said there is duplicate just click replace it

Hi,

Is anything detected by the built-in troubleshooter mentioned by Cyber_Defend_Team? Generally, it can detect and fix many sound issues. Meanwhile, reinstall the audio driver.

If numerous tests fail, then we can simply consider to return the system to a previous state with system restore. but please note that you will lose some recent settings.
