i recieved this issue while trying to open an audio file(s).

Windows Media Player cannot access the file. The file might be in use, you might not have access to the computer where the file is stored or your proxy settings might not be correct.

this happens after i access regedit.exe to add permissions on HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT, HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE, HKEY_USERS to fix application issue on my win8.1 that cant be opened.

this happens for every single audio files i had. and this error take effect to video files too, i can play video or movie with Gom media player, but without any sounds out. also with game software, it run okay, but without sound.

i checked my sound setting with clicking the sound icon on the right bottom of taskbar, but its good. the problem is with the audio files i think. can you help me to solve this? thankyou

1st Option:

Run the Windows media player settings troubleshooter and check.

Follow the steps to run the troubleshooter:

a)      Press Windows key + C on your keyboard to show the Charms bar.

b)      Type Troubleshooting and click Troubleshooting under Settings.

c)       Now click on Programs.

d)      Click on Windows media player settings to run the troubleshooter.

e)      Click on Windows media player library to run the troubleshooter.

2nd Option:

Uninstall and reinstall Windows Media player and check if it helps.

a)      Press Windows key + W on the keyboard.

b)      Type Windows features and click Enter.

c)       Click on settings.

d)      Click on Turn Windows Features on or off.

e)      Locate Media features.

f)       Expand Media features and Uncheck the box which states Windows Media player.

g)      Click on Yes.

h)      Click on OK.

i)        Now click on Restart now.

j)        Navigate to the same location and check the box for "Windows Media player".

k)      Click on OK.
