Attribute Sync

Dear all,

I have used Identify Manager 2010 (DirSync) to sync some of my local AD users to the cloud (Azure) and I have identified the following:

The "User Name" field in Office365 is taken from the mailNickName if the value of this attribute is null then it takes it from sAMAccountName for the User object.

Problem:

The naming format that we use is "b.smith". All users have their sAMccountName value set correctly, however some users have their mailNickname set as "b.smith" and others have it set as BobSmith. This caused the obvious inconsistency when I sync-ed these users to O365 as they would need to login with a different username.

To remedy this problem I did the following test:

Drilled down into a few users in local AD and opened Attribute Editor and updated the mailNickname from "BobSmith" to "b.smith". However this change did not replicate to O365. I then removed the OU from Forefront Identity Manager (Synchronisation Service Manager). This change replicated to O365 (so the users in this OU were removed from Azure AD). I then re-added the the OU, however when the users sync-ed back to O365 the "User Name" was still showing as "BobSmith". It is almost like Identify Manager 2010 kept a old copy of the User objects.

Can anyone please help?
