Attempting to mount an NFS share on win7 exported from a BSD server.
I can mount nfs shares that are being exported from my ubuntu box; but whenever I try to mount my shares from BSD I get a "Network Name not Found" error. None of my unix machines on the network have any trouble mounting the drives in question, I was wondering if anyone had run into this before, or had managed to get the nfs shares mounted from BSD. Thanks much

A few things spring to mind: Can you ping the BSD server by name? Are you using the correct character case for the server:/sharename (remember, true UNIX is case sensitive where Ubuntu may not be, depending on the settings). The mount command tells you to use \\server\sharename; try using the UNIX format: server:/sharename - I seem to recall having to do this to mount Solaris shares properly.

I've been using the unix format; it's how I got the ubuntu servers to connect. I'm not connecting by name, but by IP over my local network. I assumed RDNS might be a problem so I added an entry in the server's /etc/hosts file correspondant with the windows client IP, but it didn't help. Edit: and it's not what you specified, but I can ping the BSD server by IP; it's most definitely viewable from the windows box.

Just a thought... have you added the server's address to the Windows hosts file? Also, try the Windows format if you haven't already (\\server\sharename); I'm not familiar with BSD, but that form works with AIX 4.2, which I believe is BSD-based (Solaris is System-V based). Beyond this I'm out of my depth, sorry.

No worries at all. I'll try that momentarily and edit this if it's successful; thanks for the help.
