Attempt to install network shared printer, get error 0x00000012
Hi all, I have a hair pulling situation that is doing my head in. We have a print server (Windows 2008 R2 x64) with number print queues installed. We share all those printers out with a path like "\\servername\site - description". I now have Windows 7 computers at various sites which cannot install one of the print queues and am getting the following message: In case you cannot see the image above it say "Windows cannot connect to the printer", "Operation failed with error 0x00000012". I can install the printer without issue on my computer as an admin and a non admin (making sure I remove the driver). The only difference I can see between myself and other users is that they are at a different site. Also Windows XP users have no issue, although they are using a x86 driver whereas Windows 7 clients use the x64 driver. To get around this issue I have been setting up a local print queue on the users machines to print directly to the printer, but this is a workaround and not the solution I need to find. I have done a lot of search on this error but am so far at a complete loss. Any help much appreciated. Jeremy

I now have Windows 7 computers at various sites which cannot install one of the print queues and am getting the following message: Hi, You mean just this one of the print queues has the issue, but others are good? If the printer's Tech doest't provide any solution, the only way seems is to set up a local print queue as you mentioned. Based on my reasearch, i try my best to find some useful KB for your issue, but Microsoft just provide the KB for error 0x0000007e. Sorry for not helping much.
