Atheros Wireless Card Connection
Running Toshiba laptop with dual boot Vista 32/Windows 7. Atheros AR5007EG card. When I first installed, the card connected well, no problems with Win 7 installed driver. After a few hours of use, the card stopped connecting to router. It would see that there were connections available, but when I clicked Connect, it would just say can't do that. I went through a lot of rigamaroll installing Atheros drivers a couple of times and am now using Atheros Driver Version 7.6.0.164 (dated 28/07/2008) BUT, that didn't solve the problem. Off to the router... I had read that changing channels might solve it but when I tried to access my Linksys WRT54G through the browser (http://192.168.1.1), I got no response. I reset the router, and just reset my security, and VOILA!, the internet connection worked. Note that the Atheros card would connect in Vista 32 all through this time, and router continued to supply wired service without any troubles. So I am not sure what is going on since i don't know a lot about configuring routers or how they work. Maybe there is some kind of interaction between the card and router that causes the disconnect. If it happens again, I'll update this. UPDATEToday when I turned my laptop on, it wouldn't connect to the router although it found all the connections available, so I rebooted the router (unplug for 30 seconds) and it connected just fine.... weird.

I had exactly the same issue out of nowhere this evening - after some troubleshooting I found out my router had suddenly gone to channel 1 instead of 4 after a 2 months or so (it was set to automatic all the time). I knew where to look because I've seen the same behaviour on other systems and/or network adapters, for some reason they can't handle all the channels the protocols provide.

Hi everybody, I have the same problem with my wifi (AR5007EG in my Acer Aspire One a150), With the stock driver (from windows 7 and also from vista) wifi stop working after a few minutes. Microsoft as put an update (on Windows Update), it stays up longer but still fails after. I had to do a troubleshot (reset wireless card). (Driver version on Windows 7 RC1 : 2.0.0.72 - date 08/04/2009) On my other PC i have an Acer Aspire AL5100 modded (i add a wifi card AR5005G) but i'm not experiencing the same problem. This is working fine on windows 7 and vista with stock driver (from windows) same version (also with the updated one). Best regards. Joe

I am having the same problems with my Acer Aspire One 150, Dual Boot (Windows XP, Windows 7) and the connection to my Zyxel Router with WAP and TKIP. The Notebook works fine with Windows XP. No problems to connect. Windows 7 does not work. I tried several drivers. The problem seems to be that the wireless card can not receive the multicast key. If this helps to solve the problem, fine with me. I specially bought this small notebook to go and demonstrate Windows 7. Would be nice if I could finally connect wireless. Without WPA security, Windows 7 and the card work fine.

I was using a Zyxell Router to access the Internet with WLAN. Finally I managed to solve the problem with an firmware update . Firmware updates of different Zyxel Routers solved many problems which I came across in the past and could not understand. Problems like the above mentioned and I found in many other postings. A lesson I learned the hard way and I hope it's helpful for others to solve their problems.
