Asymmetrical file sharing problem between 2 computers on WIN XP Home SP3 but printer sharing works.
have a problem with file sharing across a network I don't understand. I have 2 XP Home SP3 computers with the same workgroup name (COLOURS) connected to a router. One machine is called Aqua and the other Toshy. On Aqua I allow a folder to be shared. However on Aqua when I open My network Places -> Microsoft Windows Network -> Colours -> I am not allowed to open the folder I shared due to permissions and "Insufficient resources". This folder cannot be accessed from the other machine, Toshy either. On Toshy if I enable a folder for sharing I can see it both on Toshy and on Aqua from My Network Places. Even more interestingly my printer is connected to Aqua and is shared. I can print from Toshy no problem. I have looked at many settings. I think my firewall is OK (I can turn it off - no change). What next? The asymmetrical nature of the problem seems significant. Any help gratefully received. Regards, Fred. Both computers Win XP Home, SP3. Both belong to Workgroup COLOURS Router is a D-Link DI-624, in default mode except for the password. Internet access works as does access to my NAS (QNAP TS409 Pro) The problem is around the file sharing not being quite properly configered even though the "hand" appears under the folder icon.

"Not enough server storage is available to process this command" is a message that you can receive when you try to access a shared resource on a network. The Event ID: 2011 may also be written referring to the configuration parameter IRPStackSize. If the IRPStackSize is not present in the Registry the default value which may not be large enough for the server service to administer shared folders on some of the physical drives. To solve this problem open the Registry and navigate to the key HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE \ SYSTEM \ CurrentControlSet \ Services \ lanmanserver \ parameters and check if the string IRPStackSize exists. If it does not exist create a new Dword with the name IRPStackSize. The default value for this Dword is 18 and you should raise the value by adding 3 to it. The first value for IRPStackSize would be 21. Reboot your computer and see if that solved the problem. If you still get the error message add 3 again and reboot your computer again. The maximum size for IRPStackSize is 50. I tried 45 (0x2D)to begin with and that worked immediately and solved all of the shared folder problems.
