Asus CG5270 with Windows 7 Ultimate intermittently loses it shares
Asus CG5270 with Windows 7 Ultimate intermittently loses it shares. I can still get to the internet and use remote desk top but the shares never come back until I reboot the computer. This is a wired 1 Gig network with netgear switch the windows 7 machine has a static IP the problem happens once or twice a day. The other 3 machines that are accessing the Windows 7 shares are XP machines I have tried the suggestions in this threadhttp://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en/w7itpronetworking/thread/14fc08fb-f62b-4f86-b59f-d7a4d685b3feWith no help

What is the symptom when the issue occurs? Please download the latest LAN adapter driver from the following website and install it. The Xp machines that are using the shares lose there connection and can not connect to the mapped drives until the server is rebooted. I have updated the nic drivers to Realtek RTL8111/8112 LAN Driver V7.3.522.2009 for Windows 32/64bit 7. the latest drivers. I can still remote desktop to the windows 7 machine and from there to the XP machines but the shares will not work until i reboot the windows 7 machineI love windows 7 but this is killing the install!!! It seems like there are still some network issues to be resolved with 7

Do you mean all shares cannot be accessed, or only the mapped drives are not accessible but you can access the shares when you manually browse? Such issues can be caused by firewall. Have you tried to turn the firewalls off on the server computer and other computers?Arthur Xie - MSFT

when the shares stop working you can no longer access the shares with ip or name or manually browse there are no network errors in the log there are no stopped services I have shut off the firewall and virus programs. the only way to get it back is reboot on one occasion I did find this in the error log Source: srvEvent ID: 2017Level: ErrorThe server was unable to allocate from the system nonpaged pool because the server reached the configured limit for nonpaged pool allocations. and found this post http://alan.lamielle.net/2009/09/03/windows-7-nonpaged-pool-srv-error-2017 Apparently you need to tell Windows that you want to use the machine as a file server and that it should allocate resources accordingly. Set the following registry key to ‘1′: I am testing the fix so far so good 2 days with no disconnects I must say I disagree with this!!!!"no there are no issues to resolve with win 7 networking, it works just fine"Sure I can map a drive and copy files but after a few days of sharing files with other users the shares WILL LOCK UP I am not the only person with this problem HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Session Manager\Memory Management\LargeSystemCache and set the following registry key to ‘3′: HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\LanmanServer\Parameters\Size After making these changes and restarting, I haven’t seen this issue arise again

Did you try the suggestion in the post? If it does not help you can also try the following steps to change the NTLM authentication level. Network security: LAN Manager authentication level To change the policy, open gpedit.msc from Start Search box, locate to: Computer Configuration\Windows Settings\Security Settings\Local Policies\Security Options\Network security: LAN Manager authentication levelChange the value to “Send LM & NTLM - use NTLMv2 session security if negotiated”.Arthur Xie - MSFT
