I received a phone call today from "Peter" with mypccare. He was calling to help me make sure my computer had not been infected with spyware, adware or malware. He said he was a microsoft technician. He also said my McAfee security would not detect any of these problems. I refused to give him any info. Does anyone at microsoft have any knowledge of this?

This may well be a bogus call whose intention is to get your creditcard details, there have been reports of this sort of thing going on.Do not give away any personal details. If you have, get your card changed. The caller was, however, right that McAfee would probably not detect spyware. If you are concerned about this, download Malwarebytes' free scanner.

It was fake call and NOT from Mcirosoft, Microsoft WILL NEVER call you unless you ask them to, such as request a support case. You can try to contact Anti-Fraud department in your country to report this.DO NOT give any information to them.

Hi All,Rule of thumb: If someone is calling you telling you that they're from Microsoft but you DO NOT have a Service Request (Case Number) from Microsoft, NEVER believe that person. Do not give any information at all.If this post helps to resolve your issue, please click the "Propose as Answer" If you find it helpful , mark it as helpful by clicking on "Vote as Helpful" button at the top of this message. Jaycee got the point, in addition just telling a number as case number is NOT case, their number should match with your case number that you have, if you open a support request its case number will send you by email or you will get it when you call Microsoft for the first time. Some of these people might only give random number, you should check their case number with yours and it should be match.

Hi! I got a call from a company named My PC Care, somewhere from India. They were sometimes hard to understand but they were very polite & very patient. They showed me all the virus & infected files in my computer which I was not aware of. They took the access of my computer and removed all the infected files from my computer. I could realize that my computer was working really fine after the service that was done by the technician. They charged me after they fixed all the problems. They said that"We Believe In Customer Satisfaction, Not In Customer's Money" That really impress me. Now a days, it's very hard to get Good Customer Service from any company.

Firstly, they called you, the question is how they find your number. In privacy rule no one allowed to find information about another person without that person permision, for example Microsoft might call you ONLY if you give your phone number and permission to call you such as sign to give you new promotion or usually call to support you but you gave information in first place and permision. If someone that you did NOT give any permission called you then they would violence privacy at first place by calling you without your permission to call you.I am not sure what they show you in your PC, but a computer professional just could show some of temp or normal files and claim to be virus to gain your trust. When you are dealing with these people make sure you are so careful, in order to NOT become victim of fraud later on.The company should NOT call you to ask for help, it is you that should find company if you need and get help.

I just received a call from mypccare and they told me they had reports that I had possibly downloaded a virus or two. He asked me to go the start menu and go to where I saw a red exclamation error and a warning. When I told him there was a error he exclaimed ohhh no, oh my good lord. I started to wonder who called me and how did they know anything about me. I asked for his phone number and said I would get back to him. I did not give him any information other than looking at those errors. was this legit and if not, did I allow any unauthorized access by going to the place i did? I tried to call microsoft and was told they don't call people. I can only assume it was not legit, but want to make sure I did not open any doors. Thank you.

Your suspicionwas well justified. Just hang up on people like this. Ken Blake (MS MVP)
