Are transfers to mapped network drive encrypted?
Users at my small company are beginning to switch to Windows 7. We have a server for sharing files and have previously used third-party software, WebDrive, to access these files. I know that we are able to map a network drive to the server using Windows 7, however, is there any encryption provided when the files are transferred via the drag and drop interface of windows explorer? Encrypted transfers are required by our customers and I need to know whether to insist that everyone continue to use WebDrive or whether encrypted transfers are built-in under Windows 7. Many thanks for your assistance- this is out of my normal purview.

you can encrypt smb traffic with ipsec, take a look here (http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/network/bb531150.aspx), eg using ipsec for network protection (its not configured out of the box though, so if you have webdrive working and its compatible with win7, you might stick with it)
