Are there any solutions when clipboard perodically fails on Windows 7?
Hardware: HP Pavilion dv6-3033cl Entertainment Notebook
Software: Microsoft Windows 7 Enterprise, 6.1.7600. X64
When using CTRL-C/CTRL-V or the context menu to copy/paste in notepad (or any other application), nothing happens. Skype throws a "Cannot open clipboard." error message when I try to use the clipboard in that application.
I've encountered this issue twice. The first time was a few days after I got the laptop and then again 4 weeks later. The issue was resolved the first time by rebooting the machine. It could resolve the issue again but I'd prefer to either prevent it from
happening, or fix it without a reboot.
I'm running "sfc /scannow" but I'm not hopeful.
Does anyone have any help to offer on this issue.
Thanks.

Are you using Skype 4.2 for Windows 64-bit?

If yes, your dv6 is missing something. Visit HP as Carey suggested.

This is still an issue. When I run "dir | clip" from a command prompt, I get "Error: Access is denied." The only way to restore the functionality is to reboot the machine. I assume some program is locking the clipboard. I do have some applications installed
but only built this machine 3 weeks ago, so it is still fairly clean. Any way to identify the culprit>

Click Start>type event in the search box and select Event Viewer from the results. Expand the critical and error categories in the administrative summary.
Any clues to the culprit?

You can also run msconfig, select the services tab, check hide all Microsoft services, disable half of the remaining services, reboot and test. If it works, repeat and enable the first half one at a time, reboot and test.
If it doesn't work, re-enable the first half and disbale the second half. reboot and test.
This 50/50 elimination process doesn't really take that long.

"Scott" left the building way back in in October 2010. Perhaps you should create your own new thread and describe your issue.Carey Frisch
