Application Errors Prevent File Open and More
I have been having major similar issues with several applications. If I try to open a file using Word, Excel & Outlook my PC frequently hangs (but not always). With Norton Ghost 14 I have been having similar difficulties when trying to the backup destination which also involves using a file open component. I am also finding the Norton Applications will not start or the icons do not display in the System Tray.I have found a series of errors to do with this in the Application Event Log. Please could someone give me some idea what they mean and how to fix them??? There are two warnings referring to the trace file and then errors referring to not being able to find a registry entry.(I have had to uninstall and reinstall Norton applications, on several occasions using the Norton Removal Tool which may have something to do with this ... the problem started after this ...) ++++++++++++++++Event Type: WarningEvent Source: EvntAgntEvent Category: NoneEvent ID: 1003Date: 31/10/2010Time: 17:28:32User: N/AComputer: PGDESKTOPDescription:TraceFileName parameter not located in registry; Default trace file used is .For more information, see Help and Support Center at http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/events.asp.Event Type: WarningEvent Source: EvntAgntEvent Category: NoneEvent ID: 1015Date: 31/10/2010Time: 17:28:32User: N/AComputer: PGDESKTOPDescription:TraceLevel parameter not located in registry; Default trace level used is 32.For more information, see Help and Support Center at http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/events.asp.Event Type: ErrorEvent Source: UserenvEvent Category: NoneEvent ID: 1041Date: 31/10/2010Time: 17:48:11User: NT AUTHORITY\SYSTEMComputer: PGDESKTOPDescription:Windows cannot query DllName registry entry for {7B849a69-220F-451E-B3FE-2CB811AF94AE} and it will not be loaded. Hi Patrick, There is a possibility that this caused by Norton ghost program on the computer.I would suggest that you completely uninstall all the products related with the Norton using the Norton removal tool and later check if the issue persists. Hope this helps!Halima S - Microsoft Support.Visit our Microsoft Answers Feedback Forum and let us know what you think.

In the end, I had no alternative other than to rebuild the PC ...Attempts to fix the problem with a Windows Installation repair made it worse and the the applications on the PC were becoming increasingly unreliable ....It is a shame no one has a proper forum to address Windows issues that affect the way applications run...PG
