Append username and password to local/network address
I've looked in a lot of different places, and no where, it seems, has the simple answer I'm looking for. It makes me think it doesn't exist, but it MUST!. Essentially I'm looking to find out how to append a username/password when typing a local/network address in windows explorer. Or even to have a pop up window asking for credentials. Scenario: you are a domain admin, and a folder on your server permits only user accounts assigned domain admins access. But you, being you, follow good practice and have your admin account separate from your normal account. You don't want to switch user, and no dialog box asks for credentials, but you NEED access to this folder. Is there a way to append \\server\AdminOnly address to use your domain admin account, or at least ask for a password using the domain admin account supplied in the address? Thanks

Do you mean something like mapping in command prompt environment net use * \\server\share password /user:domain\username but in GUI (Windows Explorer)? I have never seen anything like this yet. Rgds Milos

That's exactly what I mean. I swear it should be possible, because even on your local machine, sometimes no prompt is given on a private folder. So why shouldn't you be able to append a username to get access? Thanks for responding btw. This thread had something like 60 views with no responses until you.

Hi, For the exmaple you mentioned, it is because Windows would try to use the current session token to get access first by default. To a different credential, it is not appropriate unless you use presaved credential in Credential Manager. Juke Chou TechNet Community Support

Aww... Still feel like it should be possible... But ok, I concede. Thank you.
