Another broken patch....
So - I'm sure the folks at Microsoft know that the April 2011 patch of KB982018 is broken on a lot of Win7 boxes and caused endless loop cycles for a lot of people. I'm frustrated to say, you cannot use an Express Install of the May 4/5 2011 patches (I'm not sure if it was put out yesterday or today) because Update for Windows 7 KB2534366 is ALSO broken. If this is a sneaky way of ensuring traffic to Mac computers for people who don't know their way around PC computers (like my parents who were getting angry that their 'update didn't seem to work and it took too damn long every time they turned on the computer') - then kudos folks. I'd put this into a Windows update forum, but I'll be danged if I can find one.

Similar problems here...two most recent updates either failed (kb2534366) or in an infinate "pending" loop that hangs the compter 5 minutes every bootup (kb2529073). Tried turning off auto updates, but this does not clear the pending update that is causing the startup issue, and because it doesn't actually install, it cant be uninstalled. I know how to clear failed/pending updates on an xbox (LOL?) but have yet to determine how to accomplish this on a win7 box. Speaking of such matters--is it just me or does it seem the faster msft's xbox gravy train rolls, one starts getting the impression that the OS unit begins to suffer (internal resource "talent" being shifted?)

Hi Ion187 and Mr Brian200, Running System Update Readiness Tool to check if there's any error. Refer to http://support.microsoft.com/kb/947821 Then do a system file check http://support.microsoft.com/kb/929833/en. After that, please manually download the update and install it again. If the installation still get failed, we need to analyze the update logs, the logs are located in C:\Windows\Logs\CBS\cbs.txt Please upload the file to your SkyDrive and put it in a public folder, reply a link here. I'll check it. See this how to upload the file: http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/w7itproui/thread/4fc10639-02db-4665-993a-08d865088d65 Try a startup repair if you cannot start the computer now. http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows7/products/features/startup-repair Regards, MiyaThis posting is provided "AS IS" with no warranties, and confers no rights. | Please remember to click "Mark as Answer" on the post that helps you, and to click "Unmark as Answer" if a marked post does not actually answer your question. My 64 bit Windows 7 system has also begun an endless loop of windows updates since this past Tuesday, May 10. The box has been kept up to date with the patches so surely this cannot be blamed on the previous service pack? What's going on?

After running the readiness tool and SFC, kb2534366 successfully installed. However, kb2529073 no longer shows as an available update. Checked update history, which only shows it failed several times (not installed). Was it pulled? Just wandering...
