Another bluetooth question with windows 7
I know there are countless threads regarding bluetooth and windows 7. I have read a lot of them and really haven't gotten much help. So here goes... I purchased a Samsung R780 laptop a month or so ago. It comes with an integrated bluetooth enumerator. I had no problems when I first got it pairing it with my bluetooth devices (Microsoft Bluetooth Mouse 5000, and my cell phone LG Dare). It worked fine for a little while then got intermittent and I thought it was battery issues (even after only a week or so using the mouse sparingly). I changed the batteries and it seemed to work. Well when it happened the second time after I changed the batteries, no bluetooth devices worked. I tried putting each one in discoverable mode but it still didn't find it. I searched the web and found the Broadcom driver update and tried it, to no avail. I have Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit, which came loaded on the laptop, so there are no OS upgrade issues. Too many of the articles to fix the problem that I have found say the exact same thing, and most show how to do it assuming that the computer can detect the device (which mine can't). I have rolled the drivers back without success. It's getting frustrating not being able to use the bluetooth, when that was one on the specific reasons for getting the computer that I did. I don't want to have to go buy a bluetooth dongle, which I'm not even convinced would fix the problem. I have also used the help and support topic that comes up when windows can't find any decives, and yes it does say Microsoft Bluetooth Enumerator. Does Microsoft have any drivers that are more current than what I have? Should I be using drivers other than Broadcom? My Broadcom driver is version 6.2.0.9419 and the enumerator is 6.1.7600.16385, both of which are the most current according to device manager. For now I am using a USB mouse, which is OK for now, but I want to be able to use the bluetooth function. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

I also should add just in case it matters for my phone, that in the bluetooth settings menu under COM ports, it has my old phone listed on port 5 and as incoming. I no longer own that phone, and can't remove it as it says:"The specified service does not exist." Also, when the issues started happening after the second battery change, when trying to pair I got the access code pairing question, and entered 0000 as instructed and nothing worked. I tried all the options, but none worked. Through testing with another home networked computer with bluetooth, it can see my computer. I still can't see other devices, but they can see mine.

Anyone have any ideas?

Hi, I suggest download the bluetooth driver from Samsung website. If any paired device exists in the system, please delete it and re-dicover it. You can also try suggestions on the following thread: http://social.answers.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/w7hardware/thread/4a69c3b3-ab6f-475a-a707-719800c60a89Vivian Xing - MSFT

The bluetooth driver from the Samsung site is a Broadcom driver that is an earlier version than I have installed already, so I can't use it. I tried the uninstall of the Broadcom driver, and it totally took bluetooth away and there was no icon to even use bluetooth, and trying to install again I ran across a problem trying to install the driver again (it said to turn it on so it could detect it, which I couldn't do because there was no way to get to settings). After that I recovered from my last restore point and now the option is there, but still no bluetooth. I can see the laptop with other bluetooth devices (my phone can see it, as can another bluetooth enabled computer), but I am unable to see any devices with my laptop. There are no devices paired already with the laptop according to the devices and printers screen. I have also tried pairing 2 different devices (new phone and different mouse), but they can't be seen either. I clicked on your link, but all that it had was a copy/paste of stuff that I have already read numerous times and tried already. I know HOW to pair it, the problem is getting the computer to see it. This seems to be a common problem with windows 7, so I'm hoping that Microsoft comes up with something to fix it. One idea that I had, but am not sure if it would work, is to get a 2.1 bluetooth dongle and try using that instead. I'm hesitant because I don't want to have to purchase something for an option that my laptop already has. If I did decide to use it, would there be conflicts with the current internal bluetooth? i really hope that there is a way to fix this, I grow tired of doing searches only to come across the same answers and copy/pastes of the Help and Support topic that I've read numerous times.

After looking more at the Samsung site, there is a BIOS firmware update that was issued a few weeks ago for my laptop. It was issued after I purchased the laptop, and thus after I had the issues with the bluetooth. I haven't downloaded it because I am hesitant to update the BIOS unless needed. There aren't any notes on it that I've found so far about what the update fixes. Could the BIOS update possibly provide a fix for any bluetooth issues? Or can I boot into the BIOS and check any bluetooth settings and maybe make the fix there? I have yet to try that, and will the next time I power off the laptop. Maybe my answers lie there.

I wasn't able to change any bluetooth settings in the BIOS, but that doesn't meant that there isn't a bluetooth firmware update associated with it. I'm trying to still find out what the new update entails. My BIOS version is 05JA, and the update is 07JA, so maybe that is the issue.

No I never did it. I called Samsung and talked to their tech people and we basically figured that it's either a hardware or software issue. I did a complete backup so when I decide to revert the OS back to factory to see if it works then, I can restore if it doesn't. If when doing the revert, the bluetooth doesn't work, then it's a hardware issue and I have my 1 year warranty. If I revert and it does work, then it's a Microsoft software update issue... I hope it's not the latter, because I would hate to see Microsoft not doing anything about this...

I am having EXACTLY the same problem with the bluetooth on my Dell 1747 running Windows 7 Professional 64 bit. Microsoft bluetooth notebook mouse 5000 worked fine at first, then got patchy, bluetooth connection kept dropping out an I would have to manually reconnect. Now the mouse is not discoverable at all. I know that the mouse is fine as it connects easily to other laptops. My Dell 1747 also now no longer sees my phone (Nokia E71), although it used to see it just fine, and my phone can still see the Dell. I have looked all around the web also but to no avail. I have tried re-installing the bluetooth software, both from the Dell support site and Broadcom directly. Still the same - no devices are discoverable. I have contacted Dell support, and they want me to return the laptop so that they can replace the bluetooth hardware. However, after seeing the number of people around the internet encountering this same problem on a number of different platforms (Dell, Samsung, Lenovo), I am more inclined to think it is a software problem inherent in Windows 7. Got Kids, did you have any success with your BIOS update? Vivian, do you know if Microsoft have made any progress on the issue?

Hi, I know this thread is almost a year old, but I am having a similar issue and can't seem to find any help on it, even from the tech support team I bought my laptop from. I want to pair my cell phone with my Asus N series laptop while running Windows 7 64 bit, which has a built in Bluetooth radio. I got a new cell phone (Pantech Link) and paired it to my computer. All was harmonious in the world. The next day when I tried to reconnect the two, I was nearly pulling my hair out. Somehow my Bluetooth was turned off (which I was able to turn back on thank God), but before I got a chance to try to reconnect them again, my new phone fell in a puddle and is now in the process of a recovery attempt. In the mean time, I am using my old one (LG Xenon) and trying to pair IT to my laptop. When both devices are on and discoverable, my cell phone finds my computer, but my computer does not find my phone. My phone asks me for a passcode, and I remember using 0000 the first time with my other phone (the standard) and it working, however my computer still doesn't find my phone and my phone keeps coming back saying there is a "password mismatch" and asking me to input another. I think I have tried everything and cannot find one that works. Once again, I know this is an old thread, but by any chance were you able to figure out how to fix your issue? Like you, I have read tons of forums on this and they all seem to give links and direction to how to pair a device with a computer assuming the computer can find the device, but mine can't. Any ideas?

Hi, Same issue here. I have tried numerous things, but nothing helped. I use Lenovo Thinkpad 410 with Windows 7 (64 bit). The problem started after I paired my laptop with Samsung wave (it has Blue tooth 3.0, I guess). After that suddenly my bluetooth stopped working. I could see an incoming port with a device name in the "COM Ports" tab of Bluetooth settings. By mistake, I also added another incoming port. Now i am not able to delete these two ports. whenever i try to delete it gives an error "The specified service does not exist". I re-assigned ports. I removed all bluetooth devices from device manager. I uninstalled, installed the latest bluetooth drivers from Lenovo. Still it didnt help. My Laptop cant search for other devices, however they can see my laptop, but they cant connect. I browsed the net and found that many are facing similar issue, but surprised to see that there is no solution till now. I hate to re-install OS for this small issue :( Any help in this regard is highly appreciated. Thanks, Anand
