Allow remote access to your computer
Hi, First, please let us know the version of your Windows 7, because only Windows 7 Professional, Windows 7Ultimate, or Windows 7 Enterprise could be the Remote Desktop host. This means only Windows 7 Professional, Ultimate, and Enterprise have this option. For your reference: Remote Desktop Connection: frequently asked questions http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows7/Remote-Desktop-Connection-frequently-asked-questions# You can connect to computers running Windows 7 Professional, Windows 7 Ultimate, or Windows 7 Enterprise. You can't use Remote Desktop Connection to connect to computers running Windows 7 Starter, Windows 7 Home Basic, or Windows 7 Home Premium. If you are using the Professional/Ultimate/Enterprise, please try the following steps: 1. Check the related services. Go to Start and then type services.msc (without quotes) and press Enter. Then locate in the list of services "Remote Desktop Service". Open this service If this service is showing with a Startup type set to Disabled then Select "Automatic" from the drop down list then hit apply. Then click the "Start" button. If this service is showing with a Startup type set to Manual then Select "Automatic" from the drop down list then hit apply. Then click the "Start" button. 2. Go to verify if C:\Windows\System32\mstsc.exe exists. If the file is missing, try to run system file checker to repair the missing files. http://support.microsoft.com/kb/929833 If the file exists, try to enable built-in administrator account to check the result. Click Start -> Right click computer -> Manage -> Local Users and Groups -> users -> enable Administrator account. Or create a new user account to check the result. Hope it helps.

On a PC running Windows 7 at work, I want to allow remote connections to the PC. I went to the http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows7/Connect-to-another-computer-using-Remote-Desktop-Connection web page and expanded the article about the To allow remote connections on the computer you want to connect to section. This section shows the "System Properties" window and "Remote" tab. In such a window, the upper portion "Remote Assistance" is displayed both on my PC and in the article. But the lower portion "Remote Desktop" is not displayed on my PC. Consequently all subsequent instructions to allow remote connections to the PC can't be followed.
