Both my computers are Windows 7 and are new -- bought in 2012. I am the administrator and have set all the permissions for my desktop computer so that "everyone" can read and write all files in several folders. When I check properties and security, the computer says the file is shared and that Everyone has read-write permissions. This works fine if I am working on my desktop computer and want to change a file on my laptop. But it won't work if I'm on my laptop and want to change a file on my desktop. When I'm on my laptop, I can open all shared files that are on my desktop. But I can't change or save anything on my desktop when I'm on my laptop. I keep being told that "Access is denied." I added full permission for Homegroup as well, but that didn't fix anything. I have gone through all your tutorials and can't find this problem -- write privileges work from computer to laptop, but not from laptop to computer. Please help me fix it.

Remember that the credentials are LOCAL to computer. You should work in the same workgroup. Regards Milos

Thanks for your quick response. Both the computers are in a workgroup that's simply labelled WORKGROUP. And they're in the same homegroup. Isn't that sufficient? Please remember that I can edit from the desktop to the laptop, but not vice versa.WebDivaDetroit

Thanks, but as I tried to explain, I did exactly what you suggest. I set all the permissions -- exactly as you describe -- and exactly as I did on my other computer. The permissions look fine -- full control for everyone -- but they don't work as they are supposed to. While I can see the desktop files from the laptop, I cannot edit them and i can not move files from the laptop to the desktop.WebDivaDetroit
