All shortcut (LNK) files missing from user profile
Hi Everyone,
We're seeing a weird issue with our Windows 7 rollout. We've done ~2000ish machines so far, and on about half a dozen, the users report back a week or so later that all of the icons on their taskbar have changed to white pieces of paper. Upon
further investigation, we find that *all* of their LNK files are gone from the profile - but not from the rest of the system. Once we've restored the links, the problem doesn't happen a second time.
Links outside of the profile are fine, new links are fine, and when we refresh our App-V client it recreates the links to virtual applications.
Our environment is: Windows 7 Enterprise 32-bit with SP1, Office 2010, SCCM 2007, and App-V 4.6 SP1. All users are have Standard User Rights but we've given the users Full Control over the All Users Start Menu and All Users Desktop folders. I've
haven't found a common thread between the users yet in their applications, departments, etc. Just that they all work for the same company :) Upon investigation, they don't have any of the CC Cleaner type apps that are known to cause problems.
I'm going to start looking at any rogue scripts out there, weird GPOs that are applying to them, groups they're in, etc - but I thought I'd post this in parallel in case someone has already run into this before.
Thanks!

This problem seems to be closer to the App-V forum here

(PS-a bit out of "scope": There is the case of autologon that is described here

Chris... though this was not happening in an App-V environment, our users were having the same issue except many items on the desktop were deleted. The only constant was that it happened on a Sunday going into Monday, or in a weeks time frame. Turns out
that in the task scheduler, there is a "Diagnosis" scan that Task Scheduler runs at 1:00AM on a Sunday that performs "periodic maintenance" of a computer. Part of this maintenance is getting rid of desktop and start menu shortcuts that are not used. We disabled
that (and re purposed some of the other features of this maintenance to other tasks) and the problem went away. Your situation is a bit different under App-V, but I feel like this area is a good place to start since the one constant both of us have is the
time frame of a week.
This is under Task Scheduler Library | Microsoft | Windows | Diagnosis
Let me know if this helps.
