Hej Maria,
I have came across the similar problems before on my computer and what I can suggest you for the first step is actually try to scan your computer against virus, using some decent antivirus software. From what I have seen is that some viruses affect the registry
entry related to the file association for exe files so you may have to remove the virus first.
Then you should try to fix your registry by using this file (http://www.winhelponline.com/exefix_xp.com), it has .com extension.
Post back the result please.

Hej,
Can you please confirm that you have windows 7 OS? I would assume this from first place since this is Win7 forum, but I guess it is better that you confirm it before I provide you further assistance.

In this case, it turns out to be a corrupted .exe association.
Can you try to run command prompt (CMD) with administrative privilege elevation and run command
assoc.exe=exefile In case you get access denial and/or other errors, I suggest you to consult http://www.raymond.cc/blog/archives/2009/11/07/fix-this-file-does-not-have-a-program-associated-with-it-for-performing-this-action-in-vista-and-7/
for further steps.
Post back for updates :)
