All XP browsers on local networked desktop quickly time out unless computer is run in safe mode.
I have my old xp desktop wired in on one leg of my home local network. Initially, everything works fine, then after a few minutes, although the connection is maintained, both my firefox and IE browsers timeout (although email works fine) and if I reboot it will be OK for a few minutes, timeout, etc. I have disabled all firewalls, antivirus, etc. If I put the computer in safe mode, the browsers seem to work fine and do not time out. If I attach another xp computer (my laptop) it works fine and the browsers do not time out. Furthermore, all other elements of the home network (including an xp wireless laptop) work fine. Even if I run msconfig and not load win.ini, sys.ini, startup, etc., I still have the problem. Even if I use the task manager and eliminate all processes the system will allow, I still have the problem. Anyone have an idea about what's unique about "safe mode" that allows the browsers to not time out? Thanks, Mike 1 person needs an answerI do too
