Aircard connection failure
I have a recent Sierra Wireless AC580 aircard connection failure on aVista Business SP1 laptop. The card was working correctly on the same hardware / software combination approximately 2 months ago. Under ports the Aircard port (COM3) reports: This device is not working properly because Windows cannot load the drivers required for this device. (Code 31) It appears that something is cycling as the port appears with the warning, disappears, then reappears again. Inthe application log I receive Rasclient error 20227, error code 633 (3G connection has failed). The aircard has been replaced, but with the same problem so I'm thinking this problem is either software or laptophardware based. I do not have easy access to another laptop, but when I have access I will test that. Are there any known issues with Vista and this type of problem? I note this thread: http://forums.microsoft.com/TechNet/ShowPost.aspx?PostID=2879005&SiteID=17 though there was never a resolution. Peter

Hello Peter, It would be appreciated if you could answer the following questions. 1. Could you please let me know more details about your current issue? Kindly write down and post the exact error message while using the wireless device? 2. When did the issue first occur? Did you install some update package or some third-party application before the problem happened? Let's continue with the following instructions to troubleshoot the issue. Temporarily disable all Anti-Virus programs or firewalls Uninstall and reinstall the wireless hardware through Device Manager and restart the computer Reinstall the device driver For you information, please refer to the following webpage. Sierra Wireless AirCard 580 Wireless network support http://www.sierrawireless.com/support/Ac580choice.aspx If all the above steps could not work, the problem is most likely caused by some third-party programs or services. I suggest you running Windows in Safe Mode to identify any drivers or programs that may be interfering with the normal operation of your computer. we might try reinstalling those drivers. Run Windows Safe Mode ===================== I suggest we restart the computer in Safe Mode to see if the problem also occurs in the mode which loads a minimal protected-mode configuration, disables Windows device drivers and uses the standard VGA display adapter. 1. Detach all unnecessary peripheral devices from your computer, such as printers, scanners and removable storage devices. 2. Restart the computer. 3. Keep pressing the F8 key until the Windows Startup menu appears. 4. Choose Safe Mode with Networking, and press Enter. 5. Test the issue in Safe Mode to see if the issue still exists. Note: In Safe Mode, your system display and Desktop will look and perform differently than in Normal Mode. This is only temporary. If the issue does not occur in safe mode, lets try a Clean Boot to test the issue. Start Windows in Clean Boot mode ============================ Note: You must be logged on as an administrator or a member of the Administrators group to complete this procedure. If your computer is connected to a network, network policy settings may also prevent you from completing this procedure. 1. Click Start, and then click Run. 2. Type "msconfig" (without the quotation marks) in the Open box, and then click Ok. 3. Switch to Services tab and then Check Hide All Microsoft Services. 4. Click Disable All. 5. Switch to the Startup tab and then Click Disable all. 6. Click OK. 7. Click Restart to restart the computer and test the issue. Note: we can go back to normal boot by running msconfig again and check back the items. Feel free to let me know the result!

Solution: some kind of COM port conflict - ended up using COM24/25 Thanks for thoughts on this one.
