After power outage during restore to previous day, cannot get into os or past password even in safe mode.
Have Dell 8100 laptop, recently used out of town on wireless system in remote area, installed 47 updates. Upon return home tried to switch cable modem that I used before acquiring a desktop. I could not get the laptop to run on the internet. So I restored system it choose 2007 too far back, so attempted to restore one day back, during the restore back to Sunday I was untangling cords and hit the power switch on the surge protector. Now I cannot even get into the system. Goes to login password which I have never had, my son changed in 2002 from lap to yankees and passworded to keep his friend out of it but I have never had to use a password it always went automatically to operating screen of icons until yesterday. The second problem during the remote area stay the screen flashed occasionally and would dim to black with very very faint shawdow I would turn off and cool down and could use it later. This happened when it was 6 months old and they replaced the screen. In researching I found it possibly is the inverter not the screen and found where to purchase however, I cannot even log into my system now. I do not want a new laptop this one has been used very little has everything I need and multiple pictures. My son who set a password in 2002 is deceased. I want back into my laptop, replace inverter and/or screen. Need for traveling for work. Unemployed and building own business. How do I delete passwords? I have never used a password and don't want any. Want full rights back to my machine. When asking for my password it says domain no longer lap. Don't know what that means. I know he renamed it yankees, I have seen that when updating it.1 person got this answerI do too

The very concept of "Password Protection" is to prevent any attempt to usurp the security that it provides. If there were a fast and easy way to bypass or usurp the password protected system then it would beg the question, what would one need a password for? I'm afraid, if you have exhausted all possibilities and are still unable to find/recover your password, you will need to reformat the hard disk and reinstall the operating system. Microsoft's policy about lost or forgotten passwords .
