After enabling BranchCache in distributed cache mode one Internet Web Page does no longer open

Hi,

I  have a very strange issue with BranchCache. After enabling BranchCache  in distributed cache mode on the Enterprise Edition of Windows 8.1 (I also tried Windows 10 Enterprise Edition Build 10240), I'm unable to open the Internet web page http://www.soka-bau.de/. I get a 403 error. When I disable BranchCache, the page is working again.

I did only run the PowerShell command "Enable-BCDistributed". Nothing else is configured for BranchCache.

Other web sites work without issues even when BranchCache is enabled.

I already tried to rule out the client and the operating system by using different systems. And I ruled out the Internet connection and tried it on a different connections with and without an proxy. But it is always the same behavior.

I'm going to need BranchCache for SCCM. And also the users are going to need access to this Internet site.

Regards,

Frank

Hi,

Based on my test, this problem only occurs on IE, other browser, such as Chrome doesn't has this problem at all.

In my opinion, this problem probably relate with IE caches store of the website you're trying to access. However, it's hard to say why this single website encounter this problem. We do need further research.

Hi,

I did some furhter testing. When Branch Cache is enabled, the web browser is adding some content to request header. For example "peerdist" is added to the "Accept-Encoding" header. Without BranchCache "Accept-Encoding" is only "gzip, deflate".

So I contacted the web master of the web site. And told him about the error and my findings about the additonal request strings in the header. And with this information they where able to fix it on the web servers side. They have some kind of filtering active, which lead to the problem.

Frank
