After System Restore/active Avast is off the programs and AVG12 is showing instead but not working
Hi All, I thank u any one who can help. I did a system restore cause of an Windows activation problem I was having.Windows was showing as activated but there was errors on the MGA report: 0x80070002 and 0x8004FE22. Anyway windows is Activated and the errors are gone.I did run another MGA report after system restore. It is an original pre installed win7 Home Premium on a Sony VAIO NW26M. The date to which I restored to was a date where AVG was running (i think) Before I run system restore AVAST was running fine. After system restore which completed sucessfully to 8/10/2011. I now have AVG showing on my list of programs and doesn't work when I try to uninstall it. The icon on destok also doesnt open but I deleted it.The same on start up menu. I try to unistall it with CCleaner didnt work but I managed to unistall CCleaner and other programs. Except AVG and Bearshare. I remember I uninstalled AVG totally when I installed AVAST. Also, remember uninstalling Bearshare. I have AVAST on my C: and all the files there except the one to install it...like .exe file .I looked on all folders under AVAST folder and dont see any file to install it again. But I am worried cause AVG is still there on my list of programs and AVAST isnt. I dont want to install Antivirus AVAST with AVG still there. I also try to unistall it with REVO but REVO doesnt even detect it. I read somewhere that During a system restore windows will copy some files , that are about to suffer a significant change, as it is monitoring the restore process....I dont know what to do. I managed to install a gadget from AVAST folder but it doesnt work except the buttons for Twiter and facebook. Appreciate any advice.

Use removal tool, as uninstall is not sufficient http://www.avg.com/ww-en/utilities http://www.avast.com/uninstall-utility This is more on antivirus side than Windows and I recommend you to address respective support/forum pages of particular antivirus vendor. regards milos

The vendor pages from what I read there thats the only advice they would give me for start...and than refer me to Sony....most probably...or Microsoft...And I have read lots of posts on AVG support forum. Also, after posting initial post here I tried to install AVAST ...which was what I had running before the system restore....and I managed to install it sucessfully...now running. but now I have both on my list of programs. and theres no way to uninstall AVG... Also when I click on any item , right click...it shows me the option to scan with avast and AVG...but if I click on the AVG option nothing happens. Any further advice is much appreciated...

hi Ang101 and Juke Chou, thank u both for ur time and advice. Yes i did use the 64 bit uninstaller as I have 64 bit. and after reading so many posts in the AVAST forums...i feel a bit reluctant on what advice they might give...probably the steps I have already taken or at some point push me to Sony or Microsoft...or the easy way like always...reinstall win7...unfortunately most people dont have the time and patience to actually have a look at the problem try find out what is causing the problem and help...at least most of the people I have come across with so far.... Anyway, I am deeply gratefull for your time and advice...I will give it a go and post the problem to avast forum...or maybe just restore C to default... Thank u

Hi, Thanks for understanding. Since this product is provided by 3rd party, so we do not know what kind of changes it would make or add. You may contact their support and ask for the manual removal steps. Juke Chou TechNet Community Support
