After Computer reset - cannot logon to 8.1 anymore with fingerprint nor with password - system is not authorized for this account ...

Hi,

I recently upgraded from Windows 8.0 to Windows 8.1. For some reason I reset the Computer.
Since then I cannot logon with my local admin account any more. I am using a Lenovo T420s Laptop with Fingerprint logon. Message bad username or Password, even if I try to use my local (correct!!!) Password.
I logged in with my Microsoft acount. I can see my local admin account in compmgmt.msc, but NOT in ControlPanel- users. I tried to reset the accounts Password in compmgtm.msc, but get the error:
"The system is not authorized for this account - contact the Provider ..." (this is my personal Translation from my German message into english).
Using my Microsoft Account, I created a new local Admin Account. Logged on locally with this new account and tried to reset the Password of my original admin acocunt - same error: System is not authorized  ....

Need urgent help to Access my Profile!

Many thanks in advance
Edith

After upgrading from Windows 8.0 to Windows 8.1 you must update the Fingerprint driver. Visit Lenovo's website to download and install the latest and compatible driver designed for your laptop and OS.

Hi,

thank you very much for your hint, which was most probably part of the solution!
However, after updating the Lenovo's Fingerprint driver, I could logon using Fingerprint with my Microsoft account. My local Admin account (not the default Administrator) did still not appear on the logon screen, although it showed in CompMgmt.msc. Was still unable to reset my local admin account password, same error as mentioned before.

I converted my Microsoft account to a local account and then everything was fine.

I am really courious why this problem occured, it seems a bug! I had a good driver for my Fingerprint in Windows 8 before updating to Windows 8.1. The update to Windows 8.1 over the MS Store went smooth. But, after refreshing my PC - it says without loss of fotos, music, videos and other personal data. Hmmm, but with the loss of the local admin account logon ......

Thanks

Edith

Hi,

So after upgrade to Windows 8.1, your fingerprint device cannot be used to log in with local administrator account. The issue might occur due to profile corruption during the upgrade. Since till now no similar issues have been reported to us, and we do have hardware limitation in our environment, we cannot report this issue as a bug.

Do you have any other administrator account working properly? Make sure that the account status is active net user <administrator> /active:yes. Also try command prompt to reset password for user net user user_name  new_password

If the issue still persists, please try following instructions as mentioned below

Fix a corrupted user profile (also works for Windows 8.1)

Thank you for looking into the matter. However, I want to clarify what happened, because my Profile was not corrupted:

- I had Windows 8 - a personal local Admin account - Fingerprint logon OK.
- Upgraded to Windows 8.1 over the MS Store - personal local Admin account - Fingerprint logon OK.
- Days later I refreshed my PC, personal local Admin account logon with Fingerprint nor with Password possible (see original post) - this is what I would call a bug!

After fixing it as described in my second post, my Profile was available without any damage to my personal local Admin account.

Edith

Hi,

Thanks for clarifying, and now I understand your issue clearly. Your issue occurred after refresh and seems not related to fingerprint device. Now I found lots of similar issues in Windows 8, since you mentioned that your system is upgrade from Windows 8, I am supposing this issue is inherited in that case. Unfortunately over 330 responses in our database and nobody has a solution that I can see except performing a clean install with Windows 8.1. The workaround as mentioned in old threads is to be a requirement to login with a live ID and youve already found that. I am not sure Microsoft will release any batch for this since Windows 8 is previous version Windows. Thank you for your understanding.

Similar cases for your reference.
