Advanced Sharing Settings
I am attempting to identify a shortcut to the Advanced Sharing Settings and I can access the Network & Sharing Center via "control /name Microsoft.NetworkAndSharingCenter" but was wondering as from what I see in the registry there isn't one for Advanced Sharing Settings if there was a /page for it or something. Note: I have revised the all task module via "C:\Windows\explorer.exe shell:::{ED7BA470-8E54-465E-825C-99712043E01C})" and it does have a shortcut of sorts to this page called "Manage Advanced Sharing Settings" but you are unable to view the properties of it to identify where it is coming from. Even if there is /name for the all task module it would be great. Thanks - Des P.S. If you could put how you identifyed the datasource that would be very helpful for future troubleshooting and identifcation.

Hi, Most of the items in All Tasks belong to Windows Shell. The functions are also provided by Windows Shell. Shortcut internals have not been documented, so we cannot provide more detailed info. Best regards, Della Li

Thank you for your response however I know most MS shortcuts or alterntive ways which are not "user friendly" in the sense where everyone can understand are not documented however a lot of this data can be extracted utilizing the tools they provide such as the registry and even access to the files. By revision of the Microsoft.NetworkAndSharingCenter (::{26EE0668-A00A-44D7-9371-BEB064C98683}\0\::{8E908FC9-BECC-40f6-915B-F4CA0E70D03D}) we see the data is based on @%SystemRoot%\System32\netcenter.dll when revising this dll we extract the xmlfile which includes more data on this particular module as shown below: <childpages> <pagedefinition> <properties elementprovider="{24D568C5-F3AE-4F91-9CD9-AA18876DA7C2}" initializer="{006E61DF-1A43-4F2C-B26F-780BAEA3A92D}" layout="202" icon="imageres.dll,-1013" displayname="@hgcpl.dll,-4" helptopic="mshelp://windows/?id=9420670f-c94d-4370-bdec-5ed242c3e338" canonicalname="Advanced" From the above I can receive a bit of a more detailed idea of where this is coming from and logically through understanding of how these ID's are pieced together and what not we can create an output string for direct access. However due to my lack of understanding of how all of this connects and works I had posted this question to provide insight on how to utilize this information to obtain direct access. If any one can further assist me with this it would be greatly appreciated. Note: I am unaware if that is infact the advance sharing settings reference however I am just throwing a bone per say to indicate that this type of information can be found it is simply a matter of looking and understanding how it works. ---------------------- YEAH kept digging and boom XML21 of Shell32 and voila yeah pretty simple and there is so many goodies in there so many changes to make to by pass all security of MS yes we are the gods people! THANK YOU FOR ALL YOUR HELP!

Hi Despuit, I see that you did not get a good answer for your query in this thread. I am having the exact question as you had. Is there any way to modify Advanced Sharing settings programmatically and/or by changing any registry? Please let me know how you got your answer. I have been digging for a solution for the past 2 weeks with no success yet. Thanks! Anurag
