Administrator rights
Hi, I purchased a lap top which is runnining win 7 pro. The problem is that I purchased the demo model as the last LT was sold out. As with all specials the LT was loaded with a AV (trial version) which I did'nt want. I had bought an AV+Internet
Security software pakage that I wanted to install. I started the process of installing, however the AV Package identified a conflict with the existing trial version, and later on asked me to remove it manualy. This I tried to do, however when I attempted to
delete the AV Agent, a window opened indicating that I need permission from the administrator to delete the file.
At the store where I purchased the LT. The sales person ensured by means of accessing the LT gave me administrator rights (After all I am the owner), but because this was a demo model, they forgot to take the stores administrator rights off the LT.
I require someones assistance to change that i.e. that I am the sole administrator of my Lap top.

You will either need to contact the store that you purchased it from to gain administrator access, use a custom boot CD to reset the local administrator password, or reload the operating system on your laptop.
As this was a demo model from a store, I HIGHLY recommend reloading the OS, as you never know what has been done to the laptop prior (they are typically logged into with full admin rights 24/7 with random bored people walking by).Rich Prescott | Infrastructure Architect, Windows Engineer and PowerShell blogger | MCITP, MCTS, MCP

An user account configured to be the administrator of a Windows 7 system does not have the full rights of the well known "Administrator" account, so every time you need to perform an operation that requires full control of the system you have to perform
it in a "special" way: in this case, you have to right click the installer file of the software and select the "Run as Administrator" option (it would be better uninstalling the demo versio of the program as a first step).

Hi,
Yes I've went to the store and eventualy sorted the issue out, by having to re-install the OS.
This was made possible through the OS Manufactures/Support. My lap top did not come with installation CD's but with repair functinality via a virtual image backup.
Thanks very much for your advice.
A word of warning for others reading this (South Africa) You would have to have a knowledge base when purchasing digital equipment. Read about reviews first before purchasing. The sales people at the known stores have very little or no experience in basic
it. ivan
