Administrator login while connected to AD network
Hello all, We have just upgraded all of our machines (490) to Windows 7. All our machines are on an AD network. In Windows XP, to log into the local admin you had to change the drop down box on login to local machine (as it defaulted to the network). In Windows 7, it seems as soon as you type in administrator, it changes from network login to local automatically. Is this a Windows 7 feature? No-one seems to know about any GPOs being pushed out to do this. If it is a Windows 7 feature, could someone please point me to the official documentation where this is written down (if it exists). If not, could someone else please confirm this is a Windows 7 feature as default? Regards, Joe

The default logon domain is controlled by the DefaultDomainName key in the following branch. HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon If you want to log on to domain by default, just add that key or change the value of the existed key. Please remember to click Mark as Answer on the post that helps you, and to click Unmark as Answer if a marked post does not actually answer your question. In Vista and Windows 7 for consistent results when logging in always include the computer or domain with the user name e.g. computer_name\user or domain_name\user. Kerry Brown MS-MVP - Windows Desktop Experience
