Additional login screen when resuming from a locked session
Windows 7 Enterprise laptop joined to domain: After locking the workstation (WIN + L) the screen "CTRL+ALT+DEL to unlock this computer" appears on the screen. Once pressing CTRL+ALT+DEL, instead of being given the screen to input the user password to resume the session, I am first brought to an intermediary screen with my user icon (although smaller then on the CTRL+ALT+DEL screen) that I must first click on in order to then be brought to screen with my user icon that allows input of the password. This laptop was recently rebuilt with a new HDD. It did not experience this behavior previously. Another workstation in the domain running Win 7 Ent also does not experience this behavior. Again, to summarize: When hitting CTRL+ALT+DEL to resume a locked session, I am NOT brought to the screen to enter the password without first being presented with another user selection screen (although only the one user displays). I have attempted to use the "Hide Entry Points for Fast User Switching" gpo setting to disable switching, but that seems to have no effect. The net effect is an extra keypress, and an unstandardized procedure for users. I don't know what is different about this build from the others, but would like to standardize this behavior. Any ideas? Thanks

Hi, Please provide the picture on this phenomenon. You can Upload it to SkyDrive. I suspect that it could be related to user profile. You could try to create a new user account to test if the issue persists. If not, you could fix current user profile: Fix a corrupted user profile Hope it helps. Alex, It is not possible to take a screenshot, as this screen appears during a locked-out user session, so the prt sc key will not function within the security context of the locked account. Therefore I have taken a picture with a cell camera, the quality isn't great, but you can still see the relevant pieces. Again, this screen comes AFTER I hit CTRL+ALT+DEL to resume from my locked session. Once I click on my user icon shown, I have to wait anywhere from 3-15 seconds to be prompted with the normal screen to enter my password. I have tried this with several accounts and all of them experience the behavior on this machine. If it is a user profile issue, then it is something affecting all user profiles (even newly created ones). This machine has been doing this ever since it was built. Standard build, nothing strange. I have removed and re-added to the domain and tried 3 users, all have the same issue.

Hi, You could try the following steps: 1. Open Control Panel>Administrative Tools>Local Security Policy. 2. Double click "Local Policies", then click "Security Options", Right click "Accounts: Guest account status", click "Properties", then set Guest account status to "disabled". 3. Click "Apply" and "OK". Also, run services.msc in search box, set secondary logon to manual. Hope it helps. Alex, Both of those settings you mentioned are default settings on a Win 7 enterprise box joined to a domain and therefore already set. Therefore, they have no effect on this issue.

Hey Ben, Sorry for the slow response, we have a lot of people out for the holidays right now. From the description you provided, it sounds like we have a credential provider on this machine misbehaving. Can you give us some additional detail? - If you boot into safe mode with networking and then lock the workstation, do you get the same behavior? - Do you know of any third-party credential providers installed on the machine? David, Hey...well I don't know if you will still be looking at this thread as it has been many months since I have been able to revisit this issue. I hope you are because I think you might be onto something with the biometric login. I have an Authentec AES2501A fingerprint scanner installed. I initially had to install driver from Toshibs (not HP which is my machine make), because there were no Windows 7 drivers for HP. The drivers appeared to work (as the hardware is properly installed in Device Manager) although I have never actually setup using the reader after the rebuild. I have uninstalled the Toshiba Software (although the drivers still remain for the device) but continue to have the issue. Can you provide information about how the credential providers work, how they store their information, and how I might go about checking if mine are default and/or resetting them back to standard? Thanks very much!
