Add/Remove program does not respond
When I bring up Add/Remove programs, I have two entries that correspond to two programs that are no longer on my disk. When I click the Add/Remove button, nothing happens other than the window refreshing. When I try to use the Windows Install Cleanup utility, I cannot find either of the programs in the list. I believe (it has been a while now and I kept no notes) that they were installed from Visual Basic 2008 Special Edition. While this does not seem to be doing any harm, it is annoying because I want to test installation and am constantly adding and removing programs.b1 person got this answerI do too

After some searching of the registry, I discovered that the two programs in question were not listed in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\current\Uninstall which populates the Add/Remove list, but in \HKEY_USERS\<long string identifying user>\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall (and same string in HKEY_CURRENT_USER...) I am guessing that all I have to do is to remove the two entries here, but I have not tried it yet. I suspect, but do not yet know, that this is the solution to my problem.b

removing the entries from \HKEY_USERS\<long string identifying user>\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall did indeed remove them from the list of programs in Add/Remove programs. These were probably entered here when I attempted to publish a one click application to my computer's C: drive. I also removed the corresponding folders from the Apps\2.0 folder as well. b
