Ad hoc Vista Home to iPhone
Hi - I'm trying to set up an ad hoc connection to my iPhone just for synchronising. Am running Vista Home Premium, and after setting up an ad hoc network, my iPhone is able to get an IP address 169.254.x.x However, the wireless adapter says Media Disconnected and the ad hoc network is still Waiting for Others to Connect. I've disabled all my firewalls, and have tried to put a static address in my iPhone as well. I'm using a Dell Studio with an Intel WiFi Link 5100 AGN - have downloaded the latest driver from Dell. Have tried to switch off IPv6 as well. Here's ipconfig /all printout as wel lWindows IP Configuration Host Name . . . . . . . . . . . . : Lappi3 Primary Dns Suffix . . . . . . . : Node Type . . . . . . . . . . . . : Hybrid IP Routing Enabled. . . . . . . . : No WINS Proxy Enabled. . . . . . . . : No Ethernet adapter Babbling: Connection-specific DNS Suffix . : Description . . . . . . . . . . . : Apple Mobile Device Ethernet Physical Address. . . . . . . . . : DC-2B-61-4A-19-7A DHCP Enabled. . . . . . . . . . . : Yes Autoconfiguration Enabled . . . . : Yes IPv6 Address. . . . . . . . . . . : 2002:ac0a:1402:28:592a:97e5:7a24:ad50(Pre ferred) Site-local IPv6 Address . . . . . : fec0::28:592a:97e5:7a24:ad50%2(Preferred) Temporary IPv6 Address. . . . . . : 2002:ac0a:1402:28:d9bb:931d:6e6e:22f(Pref erred) Link-local IPv6 Address . . . . . : fe80::592a:97e5:7a24:ad50%40(Preferred) IPv4 Address. . . . . . . . . . . : 172.10.20.2(Preferred) Subnet Mask . . . . . . . . . . . : 255.255.255.240 Lease Obtained. . . . . . . . . . : Saturday, 13 November 2010 9:03:22 AM Lease Expires . . . . . . . . . . : Saturday, 13 November 2010 10:32:27 AM Default Gateway . . . . . . . . . : 172.10.20.1 DHCP Server . . . . . . . . . . . : 172.10.20.1 DHCPv6 IAID . . . . . . . . . . . : 970730337 DHCPv6 Client DUID. . . . . . . . : 00-01-00-01-11-01-A3-90-00-22-19-DD-48-66 DNS Servers . . . . . . . . . . . : 10.188.66.103 10.176.66.71 NetBIOS over Tcpip. . . . . . . . : Enabled Ethernet adapter Bluetooth Network Connection: Media State . . . . . . . . . . . : Media disconnected Connection-specific DNS Suffix . : Description . . . . . . . . . . . : Bluetooth Device (Personal Area Network) Physical Address. . . . . . . . . : 00-22-68-E1-25-0D DHCP Enabled. . . . . . . . . . . : Yes Autoconfiguration Enabled . . . . : Yes Wireless LAN adapter Wireless Network Connection: Media State . . . . . . . . . . . : Media disconnected Connection-specific DNS Suffix . : Description . . . . . . . . . . . : Intel(R) WiFi Link 5100 AGN Physical Address. . . . . . . . . : 00-22-FB-0F-2F-FE DHCP Enabled. . . . . . . . . . . : Yes Autoconfiguration Enabled . . . . : Yes Ethernet adapter Ethernet: Media State . . . . . . . . . . . : Media disconnected Connection-specific DNS Suffix . : Description . . . . . . . . . . . : Broadcom NetLink (TM) Gigabit Ethernet Physical Address. . . . . . . . . : 00-22-19-DD-48-66 DHCP Enabled. . . . . . . . . . . : Yes Autoconfiguration Enabled . . . . : Yes Thanks for helping in advance!

Hi, Thank you for posting! Can you ping each other? Please check the following settings: Set the network cards to run in "ad-hoc" mode, instead of infrastructure. Go into the network card properties and set a channel for the wireless network to use. Make sure you set the channel to the same number on each machine. If you don't have the same value set, the network will not work Regards, Please remember to click “Mark as Answer” on the post that helps you, and to click “Unmark as Answer” if a marked post does not actually answer your question. This can be beneficial to other community members reading the thread. ”
