Active directory users and computer issue
I loaded the Remote Server Administration Tools for Windows 7 so I can use ADUC. I amgetting a error message: The specified procedure could not be found. Facility: Win32 - ID no: c007007f - Microsoft Active Directory - Exchange Extension. How can I get past this issue and use ADUC?

Hi, Please launch Turn Windows features on or off, and ensure that all features under Remote Server Administration Tools are enabled. If the issue persists, please let us know which program you tried to launch and how you try to open it. Arthur Xie - MSFT

OK. I have turned on all features for Remote Server Administration Tools and reboot the pc. I am still getting the same error as above. I installed the tool on a workstation not a server. I open Active Directory Users and Computers from a shortcut on my desktop. I then go to the properties of any object and the error comes up and asks if I want to ignore the error or send an error report to Microsoft and close ADUC. I also tried to open ADUC from the All Programs menu and I get the same error. Is there an Exchange Extension I need to add to the workstation? Thanks for all your help.

Please make sure you are sending the error report. If you note down all the details from that (there should be some 'advanced' and 'show details' type links when you send the error report, and you note them here, I can look up the crash in our reporting database here to perhaps provide you with some details when I get back in the office. The error you are getting implies that ADUC is trying to gain a DLL entry point for a function in a DLL being loaded in DSA.MSC, but that DLL is the wrong version with the same name, or is corrupt. Your application event log may also have more details on the DLL causing the issue, please post any details from there if you find them.Ned Pyle [MSFT] - MS Enterprise Platforms Support - Beta Team

Yes, I am sending the error report but there is no "advance" button to expand. The program just send the error report then closes MMC. Ok, the problem seems to be here with this DLL:c:\windows\system32\maildsmx.dllThis is an extremely rare crash, and appears to happen when there is a problem with the registration of this file. What's more interesting is that this file should not typically exist in your system32 folder, but instead be located in program files along with several supporting files:- c:\Program Files\Exchsrvr\bin\maildsmx.dll- c:\Program Files\Exchsrvr\bin\address.dll- c:\Program Files\Exchsrvr\bin\escprint.dll- c:\Program Files\Exchsrvr\bin\exchmem.dll- c:\Program Files\Exchsrvr\bin\pttrace.dllSo - do these files exist, and how did they get on your computer? Did you run any Exchange system console installations to add support for Exchange in ADUC on this computer? Did you copy these files and not register the maildsmx.dll with:regsvr32 "c:\Program Files\Exchsrvr\bin\maildsmx.dll"Can this file be recopied from a working machine and re-registered?Ned Pyle [MSFT] - MS Enterprise Platforms Support - Beta Team

Ok. Yes these file exist in the windows\system32 folder. I copied them from our Exchange server, I had done this before on my Windows Vista laptop to get ADUC to work. I copied the following 9 files to my windows\system32 folder:ADDRESS.DLLescprint.dllexchmem.dllglblname.dllmaildsmx.dllnetui0.dllnetui1.dllnetui2.dllPTTRACE.DLLI tried to register the maildsmx.dll file but I get a Entry Point not Found Error - The procedure entry point I_NetNameCanonicalize could not be located in the dynamic link library NETAPI32.DLL. I get this error twice then I get the following - RegSvr32 - DllRegisterServer in c:\windows\system32\maildsmx.dll succeeded. I am running the Run Command as an Administrator. But I still cannot open the properties of an object in ADUC.I tried to install some Exchange Tools but it errors out telling me thatIIS is either disabled or not installed. I tried to turn on IIS through Programs and Files but I still get the same error when I try to install the Exchange Tools. I re-copied the file, maildsmx.dll from our Exchange server, and tried to register the file but I get the same Entry Point not Found error.

I'll drop the Exchange team a line and find out their support story for Exchange 2003 tools in the Win7 RSAT Beta. Hang tight. Ned Pyle [MSFT] - MS Enterprise Platforms Support - Beta Team

The word from my counterparts in Exchange 3rd tier: It was never supported to have the 2003 ADUC snap-ins installed on any machine that you couldnt install the full Exchange System Manager on. We only support Exchange System Manger installed on:Windows 2000 Windows XPWindows 2003Windows Vista RTM or SP1 (http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=3403d74e-8942-421b-8738-b3664559e46f&DisplayLang=en) To install the tools on Vista, you had to install Windows Server 2003 Service Pack 1 Administration Tools Pack or Windows Server 2003 R2 Administration Tools Pack (x86) It does mention that Windows Server 2008 is not supported So, if you can get the ESM for Vista SP1 installed on Windows 7 and the Windows Server 2003 Admin Pack, it *might* work. But what you're describing with copying and registering DLLs is not supported.Ned Pyle [MSFT] - MS Enterprise Platforms Support - Beta Team

Ned,Thank you and the Exchange team for all your help with this issue. I did get the Windows Server 2003 R2 Administration Pack to install but ESM for Vista SP1 will not install. It tells me that the OS is not Vista SP1. If there is a way around this install it might work, if not, I guess it's time to throw in the towel. Other then this issue, Windows 7 is running great. Thanks again for everything you've done.Mike Babb

You can try using the compatibility troubleshooter - right click the installer and select 'troubleshoot compatibility'. It will walk you through and install where you can tell the installer it's going on to Vista. And don't worry, the Exchange guys aren't going to leave you hanging. They want you to run their tools on Win7, I'm confident they will have tools for you at some point.Ned Pyle [MSFT] - MS Enterprise Platforms Support - Beta Team

Thanks. I tried the compatibility troubleshooter, change it to Windows Vista, saved the settings and tried to install. It still says that the OS needs to be Windows Vista. I have no doubt that you guys will find a solution.

I just installed Windows 7 RC1. I installed Remote Server Administration Tools for windows 7. Is there any word on being able to add Exchange Tools to RC1? All my other programs run just fine but I would like to be able to use the Exchange tools for ADUC. Thanks

RSAT works fine on Windows 7 32 or 64 Bit however getting the ESM to work properly has proved to be .. short of impossible. The system manager will install and show up but will not be attached and embedded within AD like previous versions. Under Windows 7 32 BitProfessional RSAT and ESM work great. I attended the LoadFest seminar and received Windows 7 64 Bit Ultimate and have been unsuccessful at getting ESM to be a plug in. I wasnt aware whether Ultimate would work or not. I create and remove users daily usually 12 or more and to have AD on my desktop but not the ability to adjust exchange features is tiresome. Any advice or information would greatly be appreciated.
